Just beautiful! This is my first year with a few dahlia plants, as I do not have much room. I hope they will turn out; not blooming yet 😊

Wait until they start biting you when the flowers die off. You will regret spending money on them. They are evil bugs that have a mean bite.

Love this! I planning to add this to my garden routine. Honest question: could you just take the snips out of the water and use them? I want to understand why you wipe them once more before using them. Honestly just looking to understand as this is my first year growing dahlias.
@TheFloweringFarmhouse14 күн бұрын
I always wipe them down so that I'm not getting bleach or dawn soap on my plants. I have on occasion taken the snips straight from the mason jar though and cut a plant.

Thank you for your class ! I am unable to click on the link for your Dahlia Patch group .
Beneficials are the greatest. We used lady bugs last year. The neighbors even said they saw a difference in their yard. I said those were us! I also saw yesterday these lady bugs wintering over on our property.

Good morning! I have an elderly man I work with in his home while I work towards my farm dream and your podcast comes out during my longest shift with him. I LOVE listening to it! God has put flowers on my heart but I still haven’t figured out to what extent. Your podcast has taught me a lot. I just wanted to say thanks!

I keep hearing that seedlings will cause single flowers. Is this true? I have about 100 seedlings going this year. Many from Cafe Au Lait and others from Swan Island Dahlia.

It depends on whether or not you had a bunch of open centered dahlias in your field

Thanks for posting this! I have daffodils blooming in my yard, and I wanted to harvest a couple, but didn’t know how. Out of curiosity, does using scissors cause damage? I used my fingers like you said, but I’m just curious if maybe scissors cause some kind of opening for like a fungal issue or something else
@TheFloweringFarmhouse2 ай бұрын
When you pull with your hands, you can get a longer stem. Nothing wrong with using scissors.

This was great information, thank you. Couple questions for you. Do you have to up-pot your flowers starts? Your guest said she uses soil blocks, do you? You have to start your flowers decently early, right?
@TheFloweringFarmhouse4 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to listen. Heather uses soil blocks and I use a combination of soil blocks and seed trays. The best advice is too look on the back of your seed packets and see how many weeks prior to your last frost, they are supposed to be started indoors.

Thank you for sharing - I found this fascinating. Can I ask if the seeds were from open pollinated or hand pollinated flowers. I'm assuming hand pollinated since your were so particular about wanting to grow a blush variety?
