One thing a lot of people overlook when they are living in their vehicle are nationwide Gyms. A lot of gyms like Planet Fitness offer a membership that you can use in any of the gyms nation wide for one monthly fee. These gyms have showers for the members to use. If you can afford it, might be a good idea.

I own a Jeep Commander just like yours and I have did a lot of overlanding mods that are cheap that would help you out if you're interested. I don't have any videos on them because I don't really have much of a channel but I could make some videos for you on awning configurations and a lot of other cool mods that are cheap.

Hey that’s awesome! Good luck on your trip. Mouse traps. Lots of mouse traps, not poison though. National forests free camping Libraries to get free Wi-Fi and electricity without feeling rushed to leave or pressure to purchase something. Apps (gas buddy, iOverlander) Roadside assistance you should get. Also recommend having a gps with a subscription so you can contact someone if something goes wrong without service.

I should have a video coming out about that in the future. I used a regular dehydrator and spread the food thin on parchment paper. After about 13 hrs it was ready and I just crunched it up to small bits that fit in a ziplock. Super easy!

Amazing! You made me miss my old 06 commander base 4.7L V8 4x4 i used to lived in it for a year and half, in 2017-2018 before the covid19 pandemic hit traveling everywhere in California and other state till my Commander start having lot of issue with original motor and transmission over 260,000 miles on it, i spent over $10k into fixing up my Commander to keep it maintained well with mechanic shop till they told me that my jeep had getting old, engine start to ready to finish journey with road trip with me i don’t have $8,000 to replace motor at jeep dealership when they said my motor with 260k i was hopefully to make it to 500k but when i was homeless, jobless and i was on disability ssi i couldn’t afford to get my own place around in the town. i realized it’s unsafe to live in car because the cars isn’t an RV or home, once the vehicle don’t last forever, it’s pain of ass sleeping in car in cold winter where i live in northwest nevada is always colder winter might not the best thing to sleep in it through coldest winter get you sick easily unless if you had friend or anyone to let you crash their place so you have the jeep to drive to their place to sleep in their couch/guest room, i did that all of time when it was too cold then i look for warm shelter, till my jeep ran over 260k miles, i couldn’t afford to pay for new motor, once i still owed money i paid from couple expensive repairs with my Commander, has problems with misfire with sparks plug and coil but it wasnt the coil or sparks plug i replaced third time in a year when the engien light came on for random misfire cylinders and mechanical shop said it has so many miles on it and it already dying once it was no brainer wasting money on it till i got a job at restaurants for a month then i went work for FedEx to make more money, i traded my Commander with 262k miles on it for $3500 for used 2012 grand Cherokee overland 3.6L v6 since they dont make 4.7L V8 anymore. Only i don’t like the Hemi because it seems expensive to repair and gas, and 3.7L v6 is okay, but same gas mileage with V8 too so i like the 4.7L V8 is just prefect motor for that Commander weight and small towing, i never towed once my Commander previous owner had towed before as once lived in to it also! Amazing story

I’ve just recently come across two commanders. One is an ‘06 with 144,000 with the v8 for $6,500 and the other is a ‘10 with 119,000 for $9,000 and it has the v6. Any thoughts on either of those?
@JustBecauseMikel
@JustBecauseMikel 4 жыл бұрын
Is the v8 the 4.7, or 5.7? The hemis are well known for having issues with getting lube to the lifters so I would check the service history on that one to be sure. Although Some people that are great about maintenance have no issues with those. The v6 I would make sure that it has 4 low, downhill assist, features like that. Or talk the price down if it’s the base model. It depends what you’re looking to do with it I suppose. My 3.7 v6 is the base and I overpaid for it without really knowing at the time. Doesn’t have any off roading features. My one regret about my commander.

Couple of tips: GaiaGPS if you want to camp somewhere that others are not surrounding you Change your own oil and filter.. its quicker and cheaper and you can put the money saved toward getting full synthetic. You should be able to do it with the XK on the floor even if you have no lift

Love my Jeep Commander two opinions why don't you just get a box that bolts to the top with a lock, or why don't you take both rows of seats out and unbolt them you'll have a ton more room. You're not using the second or third row seats anyway why not free up the space
@JustBecauseMikel
@JustBecauseMikel 4 жыл бұрын
A box bolted to top would be great, but harder to access the supplies inside and to be honest I was too lazy to do that. My commander is a sport so it didn’t come with the 3rd row. As for the 2nd row, you’re definitely right. I should’ve taken that out sooner. When I got home from this trip, I reworked a bunch of things in the Jeep, including taking those space wasting seats out and constructing a new bed. More to come on that!

My dad is thinking about getting a 3.0crd diesel model here in the UK, he currently has a Land Rover Defender 90, but it sucks as its too small and 1940s design more or less. I just moved into a new apartment/flat but dogs are not allowed. My dad has two dogs, so I'm thinking he could visit me and sleep in a Jeep Commander with the dogs. A minivan/mpv would be slightly more roomy but they are not exactly a vehicle that my dad would be proud to own. The UK Commander has a Mercedes diesel, Mercedes 5 speed auto box and built in Austria and they have lots of cool toys and features. I have a 2004 2.5crdi Kia Sorento which is great too, but a Commander is imposing and luxurious. Thanks for showing a realistic "living in" video.
@JustBecauseMikel

Wish we could get the diesel in the US! That would be a sweet rig. Good luck at the new flat. The Commander would only be a little tight with 2 dogs dogs in there, but should work. I have since upgraded the whole inside of the Commander with a much better bed platform and storage underneath. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for watching, more videos soon!

RE your 6th minute comments, the opposite is real. Photos can capture size and detail exceeding the sense of sight of 10 people combined, even if they on the ground and dispersed in the tree. You just need to be taught how to take the images, and where to display the size. It's been done and proven. Here's one we print part of 60 inches at home > www.mdvaden.com/redwood_grogans_fault.shtml

After fixing the water pump on day 2 of my trip, I had no other major problems. Helps to keep up on maintenance for these Jeeps. When I got home I replaced the front drive shaft, spark plugs, repaired frayed wires in the drivers door wiring harness, tensioner pulley, trans cooler lines, transfer case and diff fluid change. Good ol' Jeeps :)
