I accidentally replied to Jared. I was just wondering how a linguist like yourself got good at drums. Or is it called a “grammarist”?

Thinking about auditioning for battalion percussion in a year or two, how difficult is it?
@christianstainazfischer
@christianstainazfischer 2 жыл бұрын
I would say it's definitely difficult, but there are groups out there that do harder things. We have a clinic coming up next month, you should consider coming to it to get a feel for what it's like!

As a clarinet player, I can say this isn't too difficult to follow what's happening and I could believe a seasoned snare drummer could get this learned in like a week, but also as a clarinet player no way in hell am I gonna be able to learn how to do this.
@vaporghoul
@vaporghoul 2 жыл бұрын
it's basically just take out the flams and dynamics, then get good at that then add the flams and dynamics. Fairly easy but learning these things in time and for a competition is difficult.

I don’t have sheet music so I’ve been trying to learn just by watching, at 0:44 are those inverted flam taps or normal flam taps?

Yo how was it Christian, Lexi here. I was put on Snare drum for marching season and it's actually pretty fun. Would you say it was pretty challenging? I'm sort of interested in it for maybe next year but I'm not quite sure if I'm ready, you did good though!!!
@christianstainazfischer
@christianstainazfischer 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lexi, it was super fun! It was challenging in ways that you wouldn’t expect from highschool, obviously you must play rhythmically accurate but you have to worry about dynamics, sound quality, balancing volume with the person next to you, having good marching technique and keeping your playing consistent while marching, time management, paying attention to instructions, etc. You should definitely at least come to the clinic and audition camps in December and January so you can see what the environment is like and get some instruction from our staff. You never know if you’ll get contracted on Euphonium and the have one of the greatest experiences of your life
