This is wonderful. No silly tempo, just the razor clean precision and sculpting of the musical phrase into artistic expression, not gymnastics. See how deep his touch is into the phrasing, and still how grand and clean the expressive arcs are. This is power.

Repent and trust in Jesus. He's the only way to Heaven. We've all sinned and deserve Hell. Sins like lying, lusting, etc. Repent and trust only in Jesus, and you will be saved! You can be saved because he took the punishment for our sins on himself when he died on the cross, just like someone can pay your speeding fine in court, and you get off free. Romans 3:23 John 3:16❤😊❤

In this work, Cortot, Rosenthal and Friedheim are closer to Liszt's ideals. Liszt states in his book that he wanted these works to be played like the Hungarian gypsy orchestras and describes the Hungarian gypsy orchestras in detail. Rachmaninov played it with too much "military band" solemnity and he was too elite and serious to play like a real "gypsy". If I consider Liszt's ideals, Cortot's 1926 recording is the best; There are Liszt Hungarian rhapsody recordings of Hungarian gypsy orchestras before 1950, and Cortot captured this incredibly well, perhaps thanks to the influence of Bohemian culture in France and his close knowledge of people like Enescu. But if we look at it outside this purpose, Rachmaninov recreates this work with its own texture, and is unique in this regard. Epic, cold-blooded and grand performance.

It doesn’t fit him. This is a mezzo-soprano role intended for the female role of Irene.

There are recordings of the Overture and a tenor aria on KZfaq but above all the first complete recording was in 2023 (Retrospect Opera).Gervase Hughes "Composers of Operetta" 1962 would have been so pleased. He commended the opera saying "Where is the Man that is coming to Marry Me?" (quoted musically)"is a charming melody". Perhaps the melodies are less good than in "the Emerald Isle" (Sullivan competed by German) but the Stanford is more Irish with better "keening" than in Sullivan's Irish Symphony. I'll look for Stanford's "Much Ado about Nothing" and "the Critic" which Mr. Hughes also mentions.

It would seem that only one or two original copies of this recording have been transcribed either onto LP, CD or as KZfaq posts. I wonder if those originals were transcribed at a faster playback speed than the original recording. It is highly unlikely that Santley's 1903 recordings were made at 78rpm.

This is not Prokofiev playing. He didn’t record this piece. The contemporary recorded acoustic also gives it away; his other recorded performances have an older sound. Also it is a halting performance technically. The uploader will have to provide documentation to disprove me. I believe this is a sham.
@FranzLiszt090411 күн бұрын
in the alfred edition, it did mention that prokofiev made a cut at 3:39, if you listen to this and compare to the score then you'll notice
@pianoredux751611 күн бұрын
Please cite the provenance of this recording to prove that Prokofiev ever recorded this piece. There is no documentary proof in any reputable published discographies. And the playing is amateurish and completely unlike his actual recorded performances. And the acoustics do not match the available Prokofiev discography. @FranzLiszt0904

Authoritative performance by the composer--hard to understand why it has taken so long for the Symphonic Dances to gain their rightful popularity (I've been one of the orchestra in a performance of the piece in its final form).
