Former Blazers fan here. Have been avoiding this Blazer season due to them chocking so hard that post season. Despite that huge L, they were something special, thank you for emphasizing that. I forgot that the veteran squad was only put together that one season.

If the NBA was my girlfriend, the 2000 season was the honeymoon. I absolutely fell in love with the league at the time.. Looking back I would (as a Danish fan) have rooted more for the Blazers. I didn't at the time because I had bad taste I liked the Lakers. Could I time travel I would have rooted for that Blazers team. Boy what a collection of talents and personalities! As pointed out in this great video, the roster changes from 99 to the 2000 season made them a team of men instead of boys, maybe with the exception of Sheed, but his talents still were worth the challenges. The clashes they had with the West rivals Lakers, Utah, San Antonio, Seattle, Phoenix and Minnesota were amazing to watch.

Later that year, they acquired detlef schrempf from the Indiana Pacers, who won 6th man of the year twice in 1991-92,but too good as a bench player,Kendall Gill and George Karl clashed over the 1994-95 season, traded Kendall Gill to the Charlotte Hornets for Hersey Hawkins and David Wingate, added Frank Brickowski with his toughness?

Hard to believe at one point the Suns had Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, and Steve Nash on the same roster.

The NBA didn't want the Phoenix Suns to win the title. There is no reason for the suspensions of Diaw & Stoudemire in that game against the Spurs. They reacted and then got back to the bench. Ruined my summer...

They started the fast break and run n gun pick and pop style shooting fast 3s and scoring high points. Them and the Mavericks in like 05 to 2011. Top two teams shooting 3s in the 2000s. This style was out before Splash Bros era Warriors. These 2 teams started it just the league didn't fully copycat the style. Curry made it where the NBA wanted everyone to learn to shoot 3s. That's the difference. Seattle Supersonics Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis was doing it too and early 2000s Sacramento Kings with Peja/Bibby/Bobby Jackson/Hedo Turkoglu or 2009 Orlando Magic.

Suns started fast tempo and small ball in 2000s and to some extent Mavericks copied it / had the most suited roster for something similar. You are rigth about Magic (Stan Van Gundy is one one the famous creative mind in NBA you like it or not) implemented small ball and in out game around Howard and shooters around him but it wasn't quite the same thing as Suns and Mavericks. Magic was great and innovative but they didn't have similar pace or the right personnel. In general eastern conference teams played more slower and defensive oriented style while western teams played at faster pace and scored and gave up more points.

Damn!!! I never knew N Anderson shaved points in the Finals. It doesn't take a scientist to understand that's why he missed 4 free throws in a row. All that ACTING upset gave it away.

Screw Clay Bennett, the King and Seattle council’s, (they’d have won if they didn’t settle on the Key Arena, break the lease,) and David Stern.

As a Lakerfan in 2K, my hottake on Porty is that they had massive immaturity issues with Sheed, had no defined superstar, and law of diminishing returns. There IS a prob with too many dudes who are all about as good as the next one. You’ll have ill defined roles and no continuity visavis the top players on a nightly basis. Plus, they temded to choke. When LAL won the 2/29/00 gm at Port w/ both teams at 45-11, Port immediately slid after the L. That was a microcosm of the 4th in G7. That said, they still almost did beat the Lakers, who weren’t poised themselves in Y1 of the 3peat. Jax and Shaw and Harp (vets) did things to swing momentum away from Port in G7. Lakes in 3pt yrs did make huge hay with early series Ws tho. Gm 1s in particular. Those are worth the same as Gms 5,6. That early focus saved their asses as well by the end of the 7th gm. Took easy G1 Ws vs Port and Sac. That’s all Phil imo. Mandating players visualize winning G1 and burning sage and shit.
