Gonna hard disagree on Final Fantasy 2. Most of the complaints comes from bad advice. It's a perfectly serviceable game and the most recent release the pixel remaster mitigates a lot of the work with the auto battle feature. It's probably one of the easiest entries in the series. Would much rather have a similar style release for Dragon Quests 1-6 available on all platforms.

Have you played Xenoblade Chronicles 3's DLC? If yes, there is hope for some sort of conclusion to Saga, the ending has a radio made by Vector talking about Dmtri Yuriev and some other stuff and the final scene mirrors the ending of XS3 with the united world of XC2 and XC1 united(people theorize that now it is Lost Jerusalem) and with a blue dot falling into earth which could be KOS MOS or the Elsa Takahashi further hinted at this by saying that the ending was a hint about what was to come and this same blue dot is in the Xenoblade Chronicles 3's Soundtrack Album art cover.

I gotta be the lone dissenter here about Xenogears: I don’t want Takahashi or Monolith anywhere near that game. I do not trust them to be faithful to the original game and I do not like the direction they’ve gone in recent years. I’d much rather a young team at Square that grew up loving the game give it a shot. Especially since the story beats are all there, it just needs gameplay and graphical changes.

My favorite games of the past decade and a half across all genres have almost exclusively been tiny indie projects with pixelated graphics. When we're talking about the type of budget modern remakes entail, I'd *much* rather see these AAA studios put money into seeking out and publishing multiple new indie games than a single big remake of something I already know I love. I'd only want remakes that are cheap to make. Mess with story and gameplay as long as the original creators are on board, but keep the original systems' graphics and sound or don't update them more drastically than Sea of Stars updates those of the SNES.

Xenosaga 2 starts very well in my opinion up to the end of Disc 1 the story was pretty good but the gameplay.... Well, anyway i was more interested at the story then in Disc 2 the game fell off hard, especially in terms of story. Fortunately Reddit teached me how to understand the gameplay and that i should grind Shion when you play as solo Shion, due to that and how easy it is to cheese the game's enemies i actually ended up enjoying the combat and some of the boss fights due to that. Now the dungeons are some of the worst things i've ever experienced in my life, fortunately i used them to listen to KZfaq videos while i powered through the awful puzzles in them and how pointless Ormus Stronghold was, then at the end of the game it gets interesting again, fortunately the game is not very long. I did no side quests (in any of these games) so this also helped me. Albedo, Momo and Jr. Storylines carried hard Xenosaga 2 alongside Jin ve Margulis fighting scenes. Even Xenoblade has the "second disk curse" but to a way lesser extent, in fact i love Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and a lot of people too but it was the most controverse game in the series that highly departed from the first's tone(up to a certain point) and that it could've been a tragedy if it wasn't for how it actually brought a lot of new fans and it improving a lot after the first chapters and having a pretty good combat system that is poorly explained.

Xenosaga 1's slow opening was actually great, i tend to not like the slow beggining of most JRPGs but this one was amazingly done and it got me instantly hooked up with the game for reasons similiar to yours. In my opinion the biggest issue or Xenosaga 1 is that the gameplay is slow but boring and sometimes pure bs, most of the time you level up speed for a certain technique and starts spamming a special that takes a long cutscene for each encounter and you have to watch the long special animations for random enemies, then you get into a boss battle with a bs mechanic and sudden difficult spike that forces you to grind or search what is the boss's gimmick, Tiamat and Gargolye are the biggest offenders.

So, I agree that your premise that these games all could use a remake. But I wonder - are they really worth investing resources into? I like FF2 more than most but I'm not sure it's worth rescuing, so to speak. It's honestly surprising they've done as much as they have. The same could be said of Soma Bringer, another game I sorta like, or the way you describe the .hack games (which I admittedly haven't played). To go back to your FF9 example, there's at least a path to making a good game great there, whereas some of these feel like trying to repair a game that went wrong.

.hack IMOQ getting a remaster/remake is actually probably pretty likely at this point, though when it'll happen is up to Bandai. The developer CyberConnect2 is adamant that they want to remake it, and have consistently asked for fans to ask Bandai to greenlight it and more .hack entries. Not to mention CC2 is one of Bandai's most profitable partner developers making the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series and DBZ Kakarot for them. They've had such great success with these games that they've finally dug themselves out of the anime game typecasting hole that Bandai put them in over the past decade, and are back to making original games again thanks to their self publishing. Their first self published series Fuga Melodies of Steel is also part of their significantly more niche Little Tail Bronx series, which has been treated way worse than .hack by Bandai, and they're finally giving that series the .hack treatment by giving it a trilogy of games in a similar vain to IMOQ or G.U. Also Fuga is not being subtle with the .hack like references throughout it's games as well, the games are literally being promoted by .hack's tone and glitches, and a character they recently showed off for the upcoming 3rd game looks a lot like Macha from .hack//SIGN. If she's actually in Fuga 3 there might be a tease for an IMOQ remake similar to how Fuga 1's secret ending teased a Solatorobo remake. CC2 is still very passionate about this series, and Little Tail Bronx too, and is probably going to do everything in their power to bring it back. I can even see them going to the lengths of buying the IP from Bandai if they can't get them to greenlight anything. Unfortunately as of right now .hack, their other 2 Little Tail Bronx games, and Silent Bomber are under Bandai's control, so they're going to have negotiate with them if they want to remake them. Hopefully Bandai will stop being stubborn and just give them this because CC2 have already proven themselves to be one of their best partner developers, and it's probably not a good idea to sour that relationship. I'll settle for an IMOQ remaster if that's all CC2 can get, but I know while I'll personally enjoy it that remaster will be trashed badly because the gameplay has aged poorly. A remake would be best for this classic series of games.

Great concept for a video. I’ve been saying for a few years now square should be using the FF14 graphic engine to remake games FF1-9 (excepting of course the remake of 7). The feel and look of 14 is a brilliant median between old and new, and wouldn’t take as long to create remakes on. Heck, so many of the FF games already have elements created for FF14 storylines that it would take not exactly minimal effort, but reasonable and cost effective effort. Dawntrail took many elements from FF9 and it looks insane to see in this quality. Highly recommend checking out if you haven’t already - ‘Alexandria’ dungeon specifically.

@@TJTheEmperor I’m with you on the MMO hesitancy. I get why people love them but it’s….a lot for normies; I didn’t start playing until the end of 2022. FF14 can seem daunting in its length, however they’ve worked hard in the past couple years to make it easier by tightening up story points and adding ‘trusts’ (ai companions) so you can play (basically) the entirety of the game without having to jump in with other players, allowing you to go at your own pace. Plus the free trial goes up through Stormblood I believe so you don’t have to commit until far into your play through. The gameplay itself is fast and keeps you on your toes. I prefer playing controller but it’s all customisable (check out controller guide/layout vids if you decide to jump in on it - they’re a godsend until you get comfortable enough to experiment). I know people go on about the story itself, but it really is one of the best Final Fantasy games ever written (in my top 3, and I’ve played them all except FF11). I’m realising this is getting a little long, but thought I’d at least speak from my MMO-cynical perspective. FF14 continues to surprise and challenge me, and there’s at least another few years of expansion before it’s ‘complete’, giving way to the next FF MMO (I think that’s what the ‘trust’ system is setting up: the game’s eventual semi-retirement).
@Astroeides
@Astroeides 8 күн бұрын
P.S. - Word of Advice: don’t purchase the game until you’re willing to commit. I made a mistake of purchasing it on sale before starting, and ended up needing to subscribe. You’ll have to pay for the subscription after the purchase (well, the one month free you get with purchase).

I keep seeing this sentiment recently that Kingdom Hearts 1 needs a remake, but I truthfully do not agree. HOWEVER, the KH game I would like to see get a remake would be Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. It has, in my opinion, the best story of any KH game, and the fact that its been relegated to just a cutscene collection on the 1.5 + 2.5 package is sad. Admittedly, the combat is fairly boring compared to something like Kingdom Hearts 2, which makes since with this being a DS title and not on a console, but a remake would allow them to spruce up the combat and rework enemy encounters to accommodate that. Seeing the game get a full on remake (similar to the way Chain of Memories from GBA got remade into Re:Chain of Memories on the PS2) would be really nice. That game gets overlooked so often because of lack of accessibility, that it makes me sad.

Panzer Dragoon Saga is the obvious choice. That game is stuck on the fucking Sega Saturn with its source code lost so a remaster is damn-near impossible. For both preservation's sake and also so that more people can play it since Sega Saturn emulation is still difficult, it's the RPG that deserves it the most. 7:09 Annnnnnddd that's why Xenogears is probably never getting remade. Takahashi is not leaving Monolith Soft to go work for Square again, especially now that Xenoblade has basically become Nintendo's Final Fantasy. It would require Square and Nintendo to work out some deal for a Xenogears remake to be made with Takahashi as lead and the resources and time it would take to finish a remake could be used for newer games instead.

It took me forever to get through steamwood and that minecart section, and I was stuck on the Vambee chapter for longer than I'd like to admit. I've replayed the game many times, though, and it's honestly my favorite game of all time. I love Ocarina, but Musashi is just such a charming gem of a game. Deciding whether or not to spend my hard earned money on healing gels or a new action figure to open and play with in my room is just something you don't see in a game very often, and it made the game so much better. Ch1 and ch4 have a pair of highlights, but, after loving FC, I thought this was taking forever to get going. On the other hand, Azure maybe should had featured a longer prologue (like, showing the last days of his training with Dudley rather than just staring with one big mission), but it was amazing since the beginning and never stopped being great. Sure, it has issues, but I consider it the best in the series for me, while SC one of the games of the series I less enjoyed.
