Hello. I have printed your tally counter 5.0 a few times now and I love it. My wife uses it for counting bunnies in our neighborhood during our evening walks. My problem is out of 3 prints, one worked, the center peg that goes in the spring hole keeps getting pushed off the build plate and I can't assemble them without it...and I'd rather not keep trying the same thing expecting different results ya know. I have slowed down the rate as slow as possible but it doesn't seem to matter. Is there a way to print just that part?

Hi, I'm not sure which component you mean, do you have a file name for it? Do you mean the small pin that engages with the ratchet gear (around 0:17 in the video)? /Fredrik

@@fredrikhamrebjork8930 Yes. The part that goes inside the center spring hole after the spring itself and rides on the gear. It’s kinda shaped like a long diamond. I got the file right off the Bambu Labs Bambu Handy app.

So when you're printing this, you do two filament swaps, one for the back and one for front? At least for the buttons, not for the body I understand.

might be possible to simplify the design by instead adding a one way channel and follower for the + and - buttons, hitting the gear. would not need small parts or the rubber band anymore! itd be like like more recent designs for push-push actuated spring doors etc. this is a wonderful design!

@@fredrikhamrebjork8930 I finally finsihed it! I only have 2 problems but I don't really want to fix them: 1: the support for the spring of the the minus button always break 2: The screw keeps breaking in half
@fredrikhamrebjork8930
@fredrikhamrebjork8930 7 ай бұрын
@@The_BrickYTThose are actually some pretty common problems. The support breaking is actually pretty strange. I believe it could be that you use a too long/strong spring which puts too much pressure on the tab, but I haven't encountered it myself so I don't know if that's the case. The springs should be just long enough to not rattle around, and not in too much tension. The screw breaking is due to tolerances making it fuse to the back cover on some printers. I belive someone did a remix to solve this issue on printables, so I'd looke there :) /Fredrik

hey fredrik! what should i do if the plus and minus clickers dont have enough force to spin the dial? do i use a shorter rubber band to increase tension? or a shorter spring in the middle?
@fredrikhamrebjork8930
@fredrikhamrebjork8930 10 ай бұрын
Probably a bit late to this one, but it might help someone else in the future... A too long middle spring is likely the cluprit as that will make the pin press too hard on the gear preventing it from moving and allowing the button arms to slip on the gear instead of moving it. In other words, shorten the middle spring to decrease the tension on the pin. A shorter rubber band won't help. If it's too short the arms won't deflect when you release the button, resulting in the arms spinning the gear backwards on it's way back :P

@@fredrikhamrebjork8930 @Fredrik Hamrebjörk i just got someone to print these for me :) Just curious if it would be possible for you to make the numbers displayed bigger and such that it wouldn't require the device being picked up from the table to use. So something like the 'MTG commander anthrology life counter' except there would be clickable buttons / spinnable handles at the side. Edit: man my comment has been deleted 3 times, think i cant post links or something..

@@reinaldtan2361 Ideally the dials would be far bigger, but if I made them bigger the entire counter would need to be bigger as well due to the geometry. Adding buttons to that kind of counter is possible, but it's a complete re-design, and wouldn't really benefit the functionality, if anything it would make it harder to use with one hand. I am working on a version 6 with added functionality (3 digits and a reset button), but it just in the early concept phase atm. :)

@@fredrikhamrebjork8930 glad to know its possible. Ah, yes it would be a complete re-design but this is just a product i would be very interested in and have no idea where to go to get it produced. @@reinaldtan2361 yeah, it takes a lot of development time and prototyping to design these, especially when the design changes are big. Resetting to a specific number might be possible, but that is if I get the reset mechanism to work to begin with :P

hi. im curently printing the model, and i wanted to let you knpow that: first of all, super cool! secondly, the prints listed in the webside (gcodes, not models) are with rafts... and you specifically said not to print with rafts. i have printed the model from the gcode and the raft was problematic so i took the models and sliced them myself :) just wanted to let you know in case you havent noticed

Hi! Thanks! Fun to hear! The gcodes have brims, rafts are when you have a piece of plastic underneath as well. I don't use rafts because it messes with the first layer, brims however are easy to clean with a knife. To remove the brims in the gcode is on my to do list, but I added brim as that was the way I printed them. But yes, it's overkill to have brims. /Fredrik

Hi! Making a 4 or 5 digit version will be a lot larger, it will also require a better way to reset your counter than via a crank. Imagine resetting the counter from 56342 to 00000 for example. But I plan on doing that on my next version, however I haven't figured out a good way to do that yet.
