I’m sorry I was not able to give y’all some race winning content other than that 250 mile race but we pick up the pieces and move onto next year in the process of getting the adults cleaned out and in good standing for upcoming breeding season. I will be getting rid of most birds I’m flying now in about 4 weeks

Well judging by how we did on the 1st 100 mile from the same location I wanted them to be a little more on the tired side than having too much energy but I did not want to cut back on feed so that if it turned into a long race (like most of our races have been this year) then they would have enough energy to make it home. I never train on fridays(day of basqueting) and give very little feed for 100 mile but I did this past Friday(30 mile) so therefore I wanted to give bird a little more than just a little feed. Well I went to work and my wife took the birds to train. They made it home In good time but when I called her and asked her to feed she let me know she had a dentist appointment and would not be home until 1pm. By that time it was too late too feed but I wasn’t gonna send them hungry and loose more birds. So the birds ate at around 1:30 pm the afternoon of basketing. I never feed that late and the birds had energy for days. Didn’t break and came home when they pleased.

@@BlessingsLoft.. Oh yeah! A couple of big no no's on this race.. Never toss the birds on the day of basketing. The day before and day of the basketing is a time of rest for the birds and to build up energy reserves with the correct feeding schedule. And yes, they should have only been fed very early on the day of basketing. Never send the birds to the club with a full belly of food. Not good! They would have been better off had you not fed them in the late afternoon. and if you must, it should only be about 1/3 of what they would have gotten in the morning feeding. If you can feed them their normal ration on day of basket, then all they need to have later in the afternoon about 2 or 3 hrs before going to the club is some small seed "pigeon candy". To make them think they were fed well, when in fact these seeds are easily digestible and will not bloat them up before the race.. FYI, it takes 2 days for the nutrient value in their feed to be abosorbed, broken down and utilized in their bodies as energy.. So when you feed them heavy on the day of basketing, the nutrient value in their normal big seed mix, isn't working on race day anyway... Just so you know. Feeding is an "art" and when a person can master it, he can be a really good flyer and hard to beat on race day...
