Im from S.C. no harm meant, but maybe part of the reason it didn't come out right before is because your adding your own decided ingredients. Tomato paste is much more concentrated. One thing about country cooking, it was simple and to the point. Most folks were poor and had many mouths to feed, so they didn't go for fancy, they went for simple and filling. AND that is what made the best tasting food.

Look at this video to make the red rice in the oven ! Make the sauce on the stovetop & finish in the oven for 30 - 35 minutes . I use Ben's Converted Rice which comes out perfect every time . Rice can be a real pain to have to watch. No disrespect to your channel but I thought this way of cooking the sauce on the stovetop like you & your aunt did & finishing it off in the oven works really well with the same results . Always fluff the rice with a fork ! ❤ kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f86dfNeGscu3iGQ.html

@@prophetstaceym It is the same dish, I tried jambalaya in New Orleans in one of those Mississippi cruises, and i thought it would be something exotic, when i looked at the item, and finally taste it. it exactly tasted the same like how my relatives from South Carolina made red rice. The only difference, in the boat tour they added shrimp in the rice, my relatives and later my mom did not add shrimp
