This really should have been titled STAR TREK: THE SEARCH FOR SPOT (Sorry, couldn't resist. I'll show myself out.)

As a kid, TNG reran a lot & it became the default thing my folks put on when they needed a break from kids TV. It was very much my parents' show, not mine, but it was my favorite of my parents shows, in the same way your parents friends aren't YOUR friends as a kid, but some of them you like and some of them are boring. I didn't watch TNG regularly & never in order, but I saw it often enough that I usually know what my friends watching it for the first time are talking about. So as an adult, when this movie was on at a family gathering, I told someone who asked that I didn't think I'd ever seen it before. The more I saw, the more positive I was that I had never seen it. Surely I would have remembered Kirk dying. No way would I forget that they DESTROYED THE ENTERPRISE. By the time this scene started, I would have sworn up and down I had missed this completely...until Marina Sirtis bent down, and my four-year-old self reflexively blurted out through my twenty-three year old lips, "IS THIS THE ONE WITH THE KITTY?!?!" I know Spot's name! I know all the characters names, and their actors names! I was 20-something liberal arts nerd girl just trying not to draw attention to herself as two 50-something male engineering nerds grumbled about the movie's apparently contradictory technological explanations! I was only even watching because the TV was in a detached garage away from family gathering proper, & it is much less likely someone will bring up electoral politics if they are distracted by phaser physics not making sense! But that moment-- the reunion between Data & Spot with Deanna-- was so emotionally resonant to me when I first saw it, when I was so young that my Mom had to explain to me that sometimes people can be so, so extra happy that they actually start crying-- that remembering the scene existed so suddenly immediately emotionally overwhelmed me, to the point that I forgot all that. It put me back in the headspace of being 4, and the urgency of knowing the kitty was okay, and that sometimes, people don't cry because they're sad-- sometimes, something so amazing and good and happy can happen that your body doesn't know what to do, so you start crying, even though you're not sad. Wow.

That was beautiful when he found his cat 🐈🐈

I'm guessing during the crash the door somehow let Spot out of the room, and she 'noped' it to safety.

I love how in first contact while first fighting the borg. Data felt fear and excitement. But then just turned his emotion chip off. And Picard was like data sometimes I envy you.

3:17 believe it or not, but Brent Spiner is 5'11". According to John Larroquette, he's 6'5", and from this angle, that looks like a good 6 inch height difference between the two. I think John really is 6'5" here.

I get the biggest kick out of Bob's voice. For those of us who are Trekkies, Brent uses that same voice in A Fistful of Datas, playing bad guys in tgd hologram program of The Ancientnt West a d during other scenes too. One of my favorite episodes. I figured that when they rebooted Night Court we'd see these two sooner or later.

The Darla and Alfalfa line gets me everytime. That and the seduced by the glamor of it all line

that cat is a terrible actor. you can tell the cat doesnt really like Brent Spiner in this scene.

Data truly wants emotional attachments. A cat is a much tougher emotional equation though. A dog is more an open book. But Data likes challenges.

It's funny to see "DATA" in this funny character.

i've watched very little Star Trek and have never had a huge interest in it, but discovering this scene and the relationship Data and Spot have, i think Data might be my favourite character. this scene is incredibly heartwarming and i love these two :) it's always the characters with cats that draw me in...

And the people doing will look just like him........
