I’m not entirely familiar, nor really knowledgeable on CVTs or CVRTs but I’m looking at getting a new vehicle and narrowed down between a Mazda cx50 and Toyota rav4. Nissan rogue is slightly still on my list but far down. That said, are the cvt transmissions (which I know RAV4s and Rogues have) a big negative for a car and should I ultimately stay away from them? I live in the city and most traveling I do is to see my parents (25 minutes away in the suburbs) and occasionally drive through the other parts of the city/suburbs in my City to do hang w/friends, play golf, or just get out and go somewhere. Every so often I’ll travel (by car usually) out of town w/friends so take that into account; but, given that I travel around the city/suburbs in a relatively flat City, is cvt transmission something I should still steer clear of? I’ve read that trying to get them fixed/replaced when they start to go bad or just completely crap out - is a PAIN and will cost a lot.
