Over analyzing it but. Ya, Katara stiffed him into the friend zone but defended him first. So it's actually not as bad as it looked. It's more or less of a net neutral. She didn't mind but (literally gave him a free invitation and he fumbled) prompted a disappointed “Seriously, you're not ready yet?” response. (ironically it worked in his favor tho).

Yup, the moment someone friendzones me, I'll keep it that way for life. Married + have a daughter now, and never looking back. 🤗 Not an Avatar series fan, but hope the writers gave Aang a good life in the cartoon. ☺

Katara's reaction doesn't inspire any level of infatuation, it's almost "foreboding". Probably my least favorite thing about the series is their conclusion together; not that they couldn't work as a couple but there was very little if any natural build up to it given how their relationship is at the start(aang clearly likes her but she rarely, if ever, shows any hints of any romantic interests, just platonic love and care for her friend.) It doesn't help that they used Suko as a "fake-out" love interest and just had more work done with that "will they won't they" than they had with Aang and Katara. Idk any behind the scenes context but it feels like they just hadn't fully decided on it until the end as an after thought, made worse with the fact it's the "closing moment" but like i expressed before,bit feels like an afterthought being used as the closing moment for a series that had a lot of other interesting core elements/themes.
