Where do you get the adapter?
@Fulgorine
@Fulgorine 25 күн бұрын
I bought mine online but it was years ago so unfortunately I can't remember exactly where. I have a Makins extruder, so I got the adaptors to match that. You should be able to find them with a google search e.g. Makin's Claycore Extruder Adapters.

@@Fulgorine One more question, are you applying the mica mix to baked or unbaked clay?
@Fulgorine
@Fulgorine 2 ай бұрын
I use it on unbaked clay because it sticks better. I use mica powder that includes binder and because it’s in the dents it doesn’t rub off after it’s baked. You could probably apply it to baked clay but you may need to protect it (e.g. with varnish).

I have found these extenders near impossible to use even with very soft and conditioned clay. I just roll my own with a centered wire and cut them.
@Fulgorine
@Fulgorine 9 ай бұрын
I think it's easier to get smoother results that way. I think extruders can be useful if you want a particular profile (like a semi circle) that would not be easy to roll.

I wonder if cold porcelain would work. I'd like to have your advice. Here in Argentina, the price of polymer clay is about 7 times the price of cold porcelain.
@Fulgorine
@Fulgorine 9 ай бұрын
I've never used cold porcelain so unfortunately I can't really advise. I think joining different materials such as sticks and crystals may have problems with cracking if the cold porcelain shrinks as it dries. Perhaps you could try with a smaller piece to see if it works?

What about baking temp and time? I baked mine at 275 for over 2 hours and they are still not hard.
@Fulgorine
@Fulgorine 10 ай бұрын
Your baking temperature is going to depend on the brand of clay you used, so you need to check the information from the manufacturer. Baking time is determined by the thickness of the clay you've used. For beads of this thickness 30 minutes should be sufficient. Do you have a separate thermometer inside your oven to confirm that this temperature is being reached (not just what your thermostat is set to)? When you say not hard do you mean still squishy or still flexible? If you used plasticine instead of polymer clay it will never harden. The rigidity of the baked polymer clay depends on the brand you have used. I like Fimo Professional which has a nice balance between baking strong but still keeping a little flex. If your "baked" polymer clay is brittle or cracks easily it probably has not reached the required temperature. I usually pack my oven cold, heat it up to the required temperature (based on thermometer inside oven not oven setting), time for 30 minutes and then turn the oven off and leave the items in the oven until it cools. I also place my polymer on a ceramic tile inside the oven (not directly on the wire or metal tray) to help even out the temperature.

Can you also add alternative methods for those who don’t have tools like extruder and other pro things? 😅

You could do something similar by making a bullseye cane and reducing that although you won’t get the random colour variations unless you make the cane with gradients inside.

If you condition and soften the clay up first, it just glides out so much easier and wont hurt you so much.
@Fulgorine

Thanks. I think it's also brand specific i.e. if working with a stiffer clay like I do, it doesn't matter how conditioned it is.

Hi, just a tip for re-warming cane slices is to wet a face cloth with hot water, fold over, & place them inside. Only takes a few minutes to warm up, dry off and they should be pliable ❤🇦🇺

They are intended to use on dreadlocks so you need the correct size for the hair. Pull the hair through until there is enough to hold it in place.

For this video I used a stick that I found on the ground which had been blown down in a storm. If you are using new materials in a polymer clay project it’s a good idea to test how they will react in the oven. I was not worried about the stick igniting at 120 degrees C, but with certain woods you may get sap bubbling out. It’s best to do a test bake before you have spent time working on you polymer embellishments.

Thank you. Im not a polymer clay user, but watching how you reduce and reduce the cane seems to remind me of infinity going inwards and not outwards, the tiniest portion being a reflection of the whole even though through reduction, it "looks" different it is still the same. Oh well, just my thought. Enjoyed the video.
