Yes, you just need to update the firmware on the Tamron G2 lenses using the Tamron Console, for them to work with Z system via FTZ adaptor.

I have the 50 f1.4, 50 f1.2, and the 50 1.2 Z lens. The 58mm lens in comparison to the other 3 was not enough to move me to purchase the 58mm. The price is not the issue, but all of the lenses are remarkable and the 58, though great, didn't seem above the other 1.2 lenses. Subjective I guess.

Bought an immaculate low shutter count D200 for £80 to add to my collection. Great camera and undervalued, yes for sports and action shots I love my D500 and it's hard to beat but it costs 10 times the money and it's not 10 times better than the D200

Wondering if you're encountering the following issue. I have a Leica M11 and recently got the SL3. When I import photos into Lightroom, I see a color profile for the M11. When I do it for the SL3 I do not. I only see the standard Adobe Raw colors under the Lightroom develop tab. I contacted Adobe and they were able to replicate the issue on their end using a DNG file from the M11 and then one from the SL3. I thought Adobe was supporting the SL3 on launch, not sure why I'm having this issue. All my apps and systems are up to date.

This really mirrors my own recent experience. Before anything else, my fave pics were the long shot of the woman on the rocks looking out to sea in colour, the heron, the rocks emerging from the sea with soft foreground and background, and the sand blowing over the beach. All really nice, printable images. I've been shooting portraits on an AI converted version of this lens (which is why I was seeking a vid on this exact version) on a Nikon D600 and I was astonished how sharp it is wide open. I agree with your comparisons with the other lenses but that it comes so close when this lens is likely over 50 years old! (I checked and they changed to the rubberised focusing ring in '74/'75). The bokeh is also wonderful. I was surprised by how busy it was on the 85mm f1.4 by comparison. I think this is a real sleeper of a portrait lens. The focus throw is so easy as well and it's trivial nailing sharp focus using the viewfinder and focus confirmation dot in a DSLR finder. Did you not have issues getting the lens on and off? In my experience, non AI lenses can stick on DSLRs and 1990s SLRs and it's considered something to avoid.
@Adventure8
@Adventure8 3 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. Re fitting non AI lens, yes, need to be careful. The aperture coupling ring on the camera will grab the lens aperture collar. So I noticed I needed to set the aperture on the lens (I think to wide open) before fitting the lens.

Hello my friend. Confused between this lens and the New Leica Summilux M 1:1.4/35 ASPH ! Which one do you think is better with the Leica M10R Black Paint?
@Adventure8
@Adventure8 3 күн бұрын
Great question. For my Leica M10R black paint, I found a used Leica 35mm f2 Summicron (Black Paint version). Quite pricey but looks fantastic matched to the camera. Re image quality, the Summilux Asph is outstanding (older or the close focus version). The APO 35mm (close focus) is even sharper. I think my preference of the two is the Summilux over the APO Cron because it's faster and a little more bokeh because of that.

It's clear you are not gonna buy F-lenses when you already have a Z-camera. Also clear is that when you have F-lenses and buy a Z-camera you want to use these lenses on the new camera. The question is however, should you buy a Z-camera when you have F-lenses and if so what kind of F-mount camera's are best replaced/accompied with a Z-camera. For example I can imagine that when you have a Nikon D70 camera a Z-camera with adapter might not be lighter but better in everyway and opening up a path to even better when you start buying Z-lenses.

Thanks for watching and great questions. My Nikon cameras are: D700, D800 (IR sensor conversion), D850, D500, Z6, Z9 and Zf. I have a bunch of lens on the DSLR and some for the Z cameras. The lens I've chosen for the Z camera's are more specialised ones that don't replicate the ones for the DSLR's. So if I grab a F-mount lens, I tend to grab one of my DSLR camera's rather than using the lens via FTZ on the Z body. I find it hard to get rid of old gear. I still enjoy using my old D700. So in summary, if you are thinking of getting into the Z system, choose a lens or two that will stretch your photography skills, and buy a camera body to suit. Hope that helps.

This comparison is Misleading. Comparison should be between Nikon IR converted and Leica monochrom with IR filter 720nm or better, 850nm filter in front of the lens. Unfortunately, it appears no one tried it. Too bad: those who have money and gear lack imagination. And those who have imagination, don't have resources...That is the history of our civilization.

@@Adventure8 Of course :) Every lens has its own personality, cheap or expensive. Denis Villeneuve used cheap rehoused Soviet lenses to film certain scenes of Dune II and the result is breathtaking (Helios 44-2 58mm f/2 KMZ). Sometimes we tend to value and base our work around the best prime possible. I do the same with my Zeiss Milvus/Otus lenses thinking I need them to get the best results when in fact my photos with the most "soul" are often captured with my Voigtlander Ultron 28mm f/2 on a cheaper camera.

If you like flip-out screens, you should try the Sony A7R5, which has an innovative flip-out mechanism. The screen itself is nothing special, but the mechanism is fantastic. Also, the Sony A7R5 has 61 mpx (like the SL3), but has incredible autofocus (better than SL3). The 50mm f1.4 GM lens is also a lot smaller and lighter than the Leica example you showed and has phenomenal quality. I have the 50 mm f1.2 Sony GM lens, which is a bit heavier and larger than the Sony GM 1.4, but has even higher image quality. Enjoy your new camera and all the best.

Hi. Thanks so much for this very interesting comparison video. I just recently bought a used (2 years old) D500, mostly for use in birding. I went through a very long decision-making process (read "agony") over whether to get the older DSLR crop sensor or a Z series camera. In the end, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I've paired the camera with a 500mm/5.6 PF telephoto lens, so I've got great reach. The decisive factor for me was the advantage of having a crop sensor camera which, along with a long lens, will reduce the amount of cropping necessary later on. Whereas, on a full frame camera, you need an even longer focal length lens to achieve a similar reach and reduce the need for cropping. So, your video was extremely interesting for me. Most of all, I agree 100% with your comment that, as long as you can get the results you want, it doesn't matter which camera you have.

I am a big fan of tilt-up EVFs since I had an Olympus EP5 with VF-4, which still sells at €230 EUR on MPB. Sony had excellent external viewfinders (Sony FDA) for some cameras, but dropped this product line, unfortunately. So, today only Leica provides tiilt-up EVF solutions. I am eyeballing with a TL2 and VisoFlex Typ 020 but it is still quite expensive. And what is interesting, that VisoFlex is compatible only with the manual focusing M cameras, since Leica dropped the autofocusing CL/TL product line completely.

I love this lens, but your tests certainly showed how good modern lenses are! The 105mm f/1.4 outperformed the old girl easily at f/1.4!! I must admit mine doesn't get much use since I got a Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 - AF is very handy, and the results aren't far behind at all. I would definitely recommend the Viltrox over this if it's your only portrait/short tele lens - you get a lot more keepers (I grew up with nothing but MF lenses, but even with a lot of experience, peaking and EVF zoom it's not easy)

It's a lot easier on a DSLR though - with the combination of the nature of the viewfinder and the focus confirmation dot. Also on the newest Nikon Z cameras like the ZF and Z6III where you can zoom straight to the eye. But yes, the Viltrox 85mm f1.8 is an absolutely wonderful lens, no question.

Personally i think the m-p 240 is hands down the best leica digital option at the moment if you want vibe and value. The Q’s are great cameras also, shame you couldn’t keep both. The original Q is great but i just hate the EVF, but still great. I tried an m11, it’s great but the M-P 240 just has something about it and i think is the perfect pivot point of vibe, function, fun, affordability, image, resolution, evf, battery life. Yes the dynamic range isn’t as good as a more modern camera but impo its slight limitations are why i enjoy it so much. I bought an old F3 and when i chose a lens for it I didn’t want modern perfection, i wanted vibe. If you buy an m-p 240 that’s what you’ll get coupled with a slightly clunky system that still has a film like experience but just modern enough to keep up.

Thanks for the comparison. It is clear to me that the M11 sensor is technically a step forward. Note that two different sensors produce files which are differently affected by the same postprocessing settings, so I would have only tried to match exposure, white balance (if needed), and maybe color saturation. Also, the 35 Summilux has a complex focus field, which causes uneven sharpness on the same picture plane, that also varies depending on aperture. The 35 Apo focus field is more regular. This could explain the “different focusing” on some parts of the compared images.
