If the extra crystals are ok, it's worth the price of the radio. Have you priced new crystals? Over 100 each.

IDK what it is about old radios...... Even though they are about useless, CB radio is about dead.... they are still so cool to see the chrome, the knobs, the switches, the needle moving on the meter..... just cool as hell. Back in the 70's someone brought that puppy home and opened it up thinking that was the best thing ever!

When Dad got sick, N7JWF/AE7AD he had a very complete set of SAMS photofact books on CB radios from 1972 to 1984. Similar for TVs too. We made tons of $$ fixing CBs etc back in the day.

Hello Steve. Nice radio brother. I have a few 148 GTL's. One is decent but the other two needs some TLC. I bartered for them over the years , but, here now the CB radio availability is dried up I think. Every now and then I find a little surprise but barterinbg radios has been very slow for years. Some old and rare radios are selling for crazy prices. I have an unmolested Colt Black Shadow SSB base radio that ie very rare around here. You have way more radios than I have in my collection.

I bought a few of the sought after cb base stations off greed-bay just by luck & they made it to my place largely undamaged, also by sheer luck but they all need repair. I tried to get very nice looking specimens, not easy to do. I did get the g e superbase that didnt have the usual eaky cap damage & some had also been replaced. Fun toys, maybe not to work on.

Someone changed the channel selector display as green wasn't used on a 148. You can mod the hell out of it also as it is a awesome radio! -73's

Thats pretty cheap 107 for the cobra. I always see them go for more. My favorite Mic. the Procomm. I did a test with a few of my radios using that mic. it got the best results. I run the procomm with my Cobra 29 my Uniden grant xl and my anytone 5555n ii. One day I will get a cobra 148 gtl.

I have one of those modified with extra channels and vfo.

Time to get back to the old days and put a DIGISCAN VFO add on think some small enough to cut into an open space on face finish as its freq counter and channel changer

Nice Cobra 148. Tim does superior work on these radios.

My guess is that the extra cap was an attempt to eliminate the AC hum that this model sometimes suffered from. There was a tech note for the official fix, which IIRC involved rerouting one of the ground wires.

Organization and fixing up of many citizen band radios is time consuming... Just like my room full of computer boxes. I only own 3 CB Radio. Two a.m. and one Uniden Sideband Unit.
