I've got a huge English Laurel hedge that was planted too close to my house decades ago. I don't want the roots to go under my foundation and want to dig alongside my house, cut any roots already there, and install root barrier to prevent any recurrence. I'm wondering if the TrenchBadger can dig through the roots and rocky soil along this hedge. Anyone have any thoughts on whether this is the tool for me? Thanks for any feedback!

So I ended up buying one and it works great honestly. It just won't handle using it very long. The gearbox gets smoking hot if you use it longer than 20-30 minutes. I went through 2 gearboxes. Then I sold the unit. If you use it sparingly, it will last longer but not sure how much longer. The gearbox needs cooling fins. Maybe more oil. Something else besides what they currently have. Talk to anyone that has owned them and gearbox is the topic.
@trenchbadgerinc.487310 ай бұрын
@jostrander Thanks for your feedback. We are glad to hear the unit worked great but sad it didn't last longer for you. I'm not sure when you purchased your last gearbox but we have made several improvements in the past year. Please reach out to us at contact@trenchbadger if you have any other feedback you can share or if you would like to give another unit a try. We would love to have you back. Thanks.

I need something like this to bury my garden & orchard edging 6" deep. We have clay/loam soil and it's extremely tough going with hand tools. but I only need it very narrow; will it operate with just one blade?
@trenchbadgerinc.487310 ай бұрын
Hello Ken. We recommend the BadgerClaw blades for your clay/loam soil. You can use the TrenchBadger Pro with a single 12" blade setup but you will get a maximum depth of 4.5" and 1" width. If you use 2 blades you will get to the 6" depth with approximately 2" wide trench. We are currently offering free shipping on all products so check our website for more info at www.trenchbadger.com or call us at 866-887-3624.

Thank you for your question. This is something we explored in the past but so far the feedback from contractors has been that a dedicated unit works best for them in the field. Perhaps something we can explore in the future. Please consider subscribing to our KZfaq channel for future product offering or visit us at www.trenchbadger.com

For those who own a weed trimmer already, why would you not make just the attachment option?
@daleballenger4703 Жыл бұрын
With the wide variety of engine and drive shaft options, not all power heads will meet the power requirements, durability, and interface design. The matched 2-cycle EFCO and 4-cycle Honda offer the best compatibility for the harsh environments seen by contractors.

Hi, I'm curious what is the limiting factor that sets the 12" max depth on this machine. Is it the shape of the guard?
@daleballenger4703 Жыл бұрын
Gearbox and blades (with both blades) fully submerge without limitation. Depth is limited when unit bottoms-out on deflector. Efficiency of excavation decreases once past blade diameter.
