That bronze looks gorgeous. Bronze is usually a copper and nickel alloy, but from what I heard in other videos this is a copper and titanium alloy. It wears out so gracefully. Definitely getting one of these on my next paycheck. Thanks for the review. Edit: they won't release the GM1 ever again, that's the whole deal with their flagship releases, that they'll never be made again. The Ace line is their 'budget' category. They did release the Biblio XL tho.

Thanks - this was a really helpful video, and I subscribed. I have a Hinderer Project X that has a squeaky detent ball. I initially tried KPL Heavy Pivot Lube, and this did not help. I am now using teflon grease, and this has reduced the issue alot. Do you have any suggestions other than just letting it wear in?
@knifeknerdreviews4609

Squeeky Detent Ball is always too much lockbar tension. I use Nano Oil 85 weight on detents, I truly believe it is the best knife lube on the planet. If that doesnt stop it, reducing lockbar tension just a little definitely will, but you also gotta pay attention to the other tolerances, make sure it doesnt develop lock rock after adjusting.

I gotta respectfully disagree. Ive owned two TSPROF Ko3 (see channel) Hapstone R1, and currently own a WE Commercial and Tormek T8. I think the quality on the WE systems FAR outshine what I received from TSPROF. Also, curious to know where you heard the parts are water cut and cast? The entirety of the Gen3, Gen 4, Commercial are CNC billet alluminum. The TSPROF Ko3, the BEST version they sell, wasnt bad, but its quality wasn't anything special to me. To each there own, but I DO know of other professional sharpeners who use a WE along with a belt or other system. FYI, I own Naniwa Chosera water stones+ Shapton Profesional stones for the WE all the way to 30k.

I dont have any experience with their highest end model because its too expensive. Why am I paying extra money for a shelf on a sharpening system? How does that help me sharpen knives? 🤣 why am I paying more for a dangerous spring loaded clamp that launches knives into the air? Why am I paying twice for stones that cant do the job any faster than a single stone? Why are their plates glued on with hot glue? The cheapest weakest glue ever. I could go on and on about the failings of that system but more than anything I"m just not paying nearly double the price for gimmicks that dont help me sharpen knives better or more effciently.

@knifeknerdreviews4609 I appreciate your feedback, but I don't really know where to start. As a general statement, I am an engineer by trade and often work closely with machine shops, manufacturing tolerances, inspection methodologies, etc. The only reason why Im stating that is because I believe its important to add context to the statements I'm making/responding too. So real quick: 1. There are I believe at least 4 different systems, all at varying price points, that utilize the Cam Lock Vise. Those vary between 300 or so to 1400.00. Any system in that lineup would reflect my personal experience with WE. 2. I'd like to touch on the question you didn't answer: what specifically are you refering to when you say "water cut, cast parts"? Again, my experience has been that the majority of components that make up their systems are CNC, billet aluminum. Excellent workmanship and litterally the best after sales support if an issue is identified. As it sounds like you have special knowledge of their systems, what is cast or low quality? 3. How would their vise cause the knife to spring upward? I don't see how that would be possible....but thats why I'm asking. 4. The reason why I sold my KO3 (the best system they sell) was due to the amount of flex and deflection tied to their clamps and guide rod assembly. If you watch your own video, you can clearly see this issue with your lower tier system. By design, the knife on the WE is affixed vertically. The axial pressure thats needed to aggressively remove material is significantly less than the amount of downward pressure you're applying on the system you're using. 5. I completely disagree that the WE is a lower quality system in any way. Again, please take a moment to look at my channel. I've owned the best version of your system along with TORMEK, HAPSTONE, MAD EDGE, KME. The Wicked Edge was the best quality by far. If the price or the price of new stones is too high...then it is what it is. I'm also apart of numerous knife sharpening groups. The WE is held in high regard. Look at the amount of active accounts in the WE group, then look at Tsprof. Proof is there. Also, have you not heard about the nightmare of Tsprof after sales support? The overall downwards trend in quality? To each their own...but there's a lot of support for WE out there. You also fail to acknowledge the price of a new KO3. Factor in shipping and you're able to get a well spec 'd WE for cheaper. Good luck

@@danielslatenightsharpening254 I dont know what sharpening groups you're in but Im in both of those groups and many more, pretty much every high level sharpening service guy has switched to TSProf... Yes the Wicked Edge group is bigger its been around for like 5 or 6 years longer than the Tsprof group. And it is the sole group for wicked edge so all the owners whom use facebook end up there looking for help with learning because the system is difficult to learn. It takes years to be proficient with wicked edge. Any newb can pick up a tsprof and be making perfect mirrored edges after 20 knives because its simple and effective. The cheap cast parts that fail on the wicked edge are on the lower end systems where they utlize screws on the jaws that end up ripping straight through the aluminum after a year or 2 of use which if you have been around the wicked edge group you have seen happen plenty of times. Luckily the service is good and the jaws get replaced for free but it is a failure point that has happened over and over again. The cam lock maintains constant spring pressure against the blade, if the blade slips while in the jaws the jaws slam shut and shoot the knife straight up in the air and it becomes a projectile razor blade. I know this because it happened to me and I narrowly avoided being permanenlty disfigured because the knife almost hit me in the face. It also damaged the finish on the $500 knife when it shot it out of the jaws. Any percieved "flex in the TSprof system is non consequential because it does not effect the angle whatsoever, however the play between the rods and the plastic stone holders on the wicked edge absolutely do introduce angle change and cause you to have 2 bevels on the edge unless you are extremely skilled with how you stroke the stones and well aware of the play issue between the rod and stone holders as well as the rod knuckles. The wicked Edge is held in high regard by wicked edge owners because they mostly have not realized there is better systems on the market or they feel they need to justify the thousands of dollars they invested into a subpar system that relies on gimmicks rather then effectiveness and efficiency. 🙅‍♂️

there is some movement between the adjusment bar and the swivel/clamp assembly from left to right, this is because the angle ajustment is geared, you twist a knob to change the angles and cam a lottle lever to lock it in, the movement is side to side and does not effect your angle. There is no perfect system but this one is 10x better than a WE. The shortcomings of the Kadet are mainly due to its size and portability. The K03 is a much more solid unit made to be stationary. So effectively this system is more comparable to the portable wicked edge system but far better than the top of the line wicked edge obviously. Don't take my word for it though, I only had 5 years experience with a WE and grew to hate it by year 3. 🤣
@knifeknerdreviews4609
@knifeknerdreviews4609 7 ай бұрын
Actually I take that back it did need an adjustment, all I had to do was loosen 2 set screws and change the tension level of the locking lever and now the side to side movement is 99% gone, I been meaning to go through my kadet and retune everything as Ive had it nearly a year now and some things need to be cleaned, tuned and checked. I had another issue a week ago where something started moving in the rod eyelet, that also turned out to be a loose set screw, so it needs to be gone through and some set screws need loctite.
@knifeknerdreviews4609
@knifeknerdreviews4609 7 ай бұрын
It's a lot more than just the stone compensator though, With the wicked edge you Were stuck with their proprietary stones which frankly are not that good compared to newer abrasives on the market but that has changed recently thanks to Hapstone creating a set of stone adaptors made for the wicked edge so you can now use good stones however you still have to buy 2 stones per grit so your cost of abrasives is double mine. Its sad that a russian company had to make adaptors to bring the wicked edge into the modern abrasive market but at least those adaptors exist now for current wicked edge owners. But one of the big reasons I dumped the wicked edge is because it tried to murder me... Yep you heard that right and no I'm not kidding. That Cam lever set of jaws is dangerous, the way it is designed when you lock that cam down the jaws are under constant spring tension. Wanna know what happens if the blade slips or is forced out of the jaws by that spring tension? take a wild guess... Yep you got it, the knife goes flying quite literally, it will shoot straight up in the air and guess where your face is at when you're sharpening... 😂 Luckily I was able to enter the matrix and dodge a flying razor sharp knife that was headed right for my face and narrowly avoid a lifetime of facial disfigurement or possible death. So keep that in mind when you lock that Cam down... Pay close attention to how stable your blade is in those jaws and keep your face away from the system...
