I swim that beach a lot.... you just gotta know where you can stand and where you cannot + you need to be a good swimmer in general

Again, this is on Kaua'i. Stay out!! People drown here on days like this, don't think you know how to swim, this is extremely dangerous.

This is a very dangerous beach on the north shore of Kauai. Many people have drowned here. What these people are doing is insanely stupid

They don’t realize just how dangerous it is. I’ve seen videos of lifeguards having to keep warning people over and over and over to stay away from certain areas then have to go rescue someone. I would have my butt planted on the beach above the tide level videoing and taking pictures because I love those kind of waves.

Smart choice at the third wave. Lay down and that wave will carry you in.

The ocean can be a very unforgiving place, pay close attention to the waves and watch your little ones closely.

Similar rock break where I grew up in Australia. I was up high on a rock fishing, whilst my Dad was filleting a fish in beach pool behind the rocks. I noticed a huge wave approaching, I looked at my Dad, then back at the mounting wave, and smiled. Boom, a huge plume of water went up and cast a shadow that made Dad look up. Soaked, I laughed so hard. (He was never in danger of being swept away). It was a long quiet walk home.

There’s a reason you’re told not to swim at Lumihai. It is basically wide open to open water currents in the pacific, no protection.
