I walked through the tunnel about 5 years ago, the Corby end was blocked with rubble. I think those bricked up walls and vents are only a couple of years old. The long sleepers are 'crossing timbers', used on points and crossovers, where the tracks diverge. 'Standard gauge' (4' 8.5") was used by all the main railway companies, though Brunel tried broad gauge tracks in the 1800's

Amazing footage with your drone over my home town. I use to spend a lot of time on the GCR as a child in the early 80s. My parents garden backed onto the line. Take neighbours dogs for a walk. I still walk along the GCR have done for many years all year round. To visit my mother in Hillmorton. Ashlawn Bridge is huge and in very good condition definitely my favourite across the stretch. I've seen a lot of changes and it's sad to see new developments around that I once walked on. The GEC was a feast back then. The railway tracks were donated by Network Rail probably just before you started filming. GCR never disappoints. And my mother has the very last ticket issued before GCR was axed. Because her dad worked on the station then transferred to LNER Before he retired in 1980. So a definite thumbs 👍 I've subscribed aswell 🚂🚃🚃🚃

@@PurpleandCoRailwayAdventures It's nice to know that volunteers help clean up the GCR over the years. It's so far better nowadays than it was when I was younger. I'm hoping one day they'll put more seating along the stretch especially for the older folk to relax. If and when it snows again during the winter months it's a postcard when that happens 🤞 safe travels 🥾👍

Hi just a little observation, I see in the description it says mainly owned by DB Schenker UK, I think it should be DB Cargo UK. The Schenker side is mainly for the road logistics side of things, and Cargo is the more traditional rail side.

@@PurpleandCoRailwayAdventures I only really noticed as i made the same mistake a couple of years ago, I work for DB Cargo, and when I was researching the company ready for my interview, I found a fair amount of stuff referencing DB Schenker, but not too much about the newer name.

Hi purple x co 😊 lovely clear video on the mobious 1,👍 Is the mic on the drone or next to you as those bird sounds come thru real crisp.I spend seven afternoons a week near the tracks at Irchester but rarely get to see all those different TWAIIIINS that you capture 😢

Did you not know about Toton bank on the far side? Last time I went I parked in a housing estate and walked for 5 minutes you get Heightened perspective from there on the side where the scrap 60s are. Toton is OK, went in 87 as a kid running around the shed on an authorised visit. Was full of 45s, 47, 56s, 20s, 37s and 08s back then. I did barrow hill and Tinsley as well.. Magical days indeed.

A better view is from the bank on the east side. M1J25, take A52 towards Nottingham turn right at the 1st roundabout towards Toton, down hill to the lights and turn right on Banks Road, go as far as a turning circle and park up. Then its through the bushes onto a footpath that will take you to the top of the hill .
