Yup, I believe for my 1500w hub motor and 17ah battery I paid around £700. Goes 30+mph and I have to put zero effort in to get up any hill.

Plus, i have to swap my hand made Mavic rim, which is light and amazing for a far east heavy pile of junk, in comparison.

How long it takes depends on how fast you go, and I would have taken about 2 hours. The route didn't go through Portobello because there is an amazing Innocent Cycle Path instead - www.alltrails.com/en-gb/trail/scotland/edinburgh/innocent-cycle-path We didn't see much traffic at all, as I try to plan routes to be as safe as possible. Have fun.

What level of assist did you have it on? 12 miles doesn't seem like very much.

@@StuMarston Not been out on it since, so it's too early to judge perhaps. I did use all levels of power at some time, the hills mentioned, one is very steep for quarter of a mile, will save the battery just for the hills and see if the duration is any better.

Yes, the 50% deal is an absolute joke, as one person replied cheaper kits now on market, and more pop up every year, 6 months delivery, its almost comical, oh, one month pay twice....

My daughter and my wife have used the Swytch bike for many trips (and please remember this was one of the first batch, they are much more efficient now), including from the North Devon coast to the South Devon coast, plus many trips in South of Cornwall. Our days are around 50-80k per day. The battery lasted all day on every trip. There was one occasion we were stopped for coffee in Devon and charged the battery in the cafe ‘just in case’. Obviously the length of the battery life per day depends heavily on how you use it. Because you have normal gears on a normal bike, there is no requirement to use the power on flat or down hill sections. Also it will depend on what weight the bike is carrying. I can only give you details of my personal experiences.

The Swytch bike is in fact an ebike as I understand it... This is the dictionary definition of 'ebike' - a bike that can be powered by electricity as well as propelled by pedals. @@Cycle4FunUK It's an ebike ONLY if you pay for the throttle. And that option isn't communicated or vailable to non-UK customers. It's an extra ask, which I've requested but no go yet. I want consumers to know what they're purchasing.

I have not experienced any drag, but it is a bit heavier. However, this doesn't make much difference to my wife, she turns the power off on the flat and only uses it for hills. She says it rides well.

Swytch motor is only 250 watt. Very unlikely to provide enough power to break the forks unless they were already weak. Or perhaps on max power mode with no torque applied to rear wheel, which could be due to several reasons, such as use of optional throttle, or wrong gear or just not enough paddling.

I agree with Manish. I'm not an engineer, but I would doubt very much that the Swytch had enough power to break anything on your bike.

@@Cycle4FunUK read his SECOND sentence again - I was on a very steep incline (driveway) - "max power and no torque applied to rear wheel" was basically the scenario. I just wanted to explain what happened to me - your experience may (hopefully) be different.

I'm in the UK and I paid £600 2 years ago. I think they are about the same price now.

You can buy a throttle with the kit, but this feature is not allowed in some countries. You will find this out as you go through the buying process.

You are welcome Frank. Some of my cycling buddies are a similar age to you and have Swytched. They don't use the power very often, but it is handy on the big hills, or if we have a long day. As long as you keep cycling, Swytch when you are ready.

Swytch works best with ordinary hybrid bikes. If you have aluminium forks you should contact Swytch directly.

Would that be the same issue for carbon fiber forks?

I think because it's only 250 W it's safe for aluminum forks. But just to be safe I think I'd still use a torque arm.

Fantastic. My daughter and I just cycled for 3 days in the rolling hills of Devon UK. This would have not been possible before the Swytch.

These bikes give you as much excercise as you choose depending on the level you set it at.

An e-bike helps with the hills. You still have to put effort into the pedals or the power doesn't work. It especially helps when you want to cycle for fun with people who are at a different level of strength and fitness, which means you all have fun together. BTW, you can't smell the flowers and enjoy the open spaces in an Uber.

Ebikes still get people out and on a bicycle that might have some physical limitations as in a bad knees.

Is a easy electric bike conversion kit. If you are pointing out there are so many on eBay, I don’t disagree but not one that is compact as this. Especially if you have a y frame bike the front mounted battery is the way to go and that’s where eBay don’t have

@@donaldducko6580You still have to work the pedals. This Swytch kit is very helpful for people with 'bad knees'. It helps a lot when climbing hills or when you're tired of pedaling, you can use the throttle button. I like my Swytch kit. I can ride longer distances that I was not able to do before. There are 5 assist levels, so it's up to you, how hard you want to pedal.

There are a lot of cheaper ones in the market and saving you nearly $300, but saying that Swytch build is front battery mounted and non in market has that, most are a long battery that is attached to the body of the typical diamond frame or on the back on a rack

@@toyshanger8945 You are right, the reason I did the research is because my wife tried one with the battery on the back and she wasn't strong enough to move it around to park it. She loves the Swytch because she loves her own bike, and now it is powered with an even weight distribution.
