Sir, you have single handedly made me reconsider the decision I had made to never purchase a Linn Sondek LP12 again. My story. I bought an '83 LP12 from a friend who worked at a store that sold them in Sarasota, FL and abruptly closed in 1984. That's a story fit for an espionage novel for another day. He was not involved in the intrigue that surrounded that store and I acquired it from him in 1992. A new store emerged in Tampa, FL just 2 hours to my north. The owner became my "rock" to keep my LP12 running at its full potential; that is until the day came when he stopped caring. (He is no longer in business). It is my understanding that this was not an uncommon phenomenon among Linn Dealers around 2,000. The decline of the LP and lack of support from the parent company led many a faithful Linn Dealer to lose the fire and after spending $2,800 in upgrades (Cirkus, Lingo, Trampolin, new arm board for my Ittok, Adickt cartridge, etc,) well, let's just say I got home and felt like I had been had. I kept the Linn sounding less than stellar until we moved to Tennessee in 2015 and a "shade tree" audio store in Kingsport, conditioned that I purchase a Rega Elys 2, took my Linn completely apart for $100 (they did not have the Jig or Rig or whatever it is called) but took three weeks to disassemble my 'table and reassemble it (the tech, although unfamiliar with Linn's in particular was a bit of a genius and studied the 'table and restored it to its former glory). Here's my current dilemma. That store is out of business and the nearest Linn Dealer is in Atlanta, a four-hour drive. We have had several discussions as to the best course forward; sell my current Linn and start afresh with the Majik, or keep the old goose going. But he is four hours away! But your brilliant video has a least shown me the care that has gone into this deck and my only sorrow is I don't have someone like you near me. 1 hour would be fine! End of story. I would love to give my two cents worth to Mr. Tiefenbrun!

I love the idea of an espionage novel based around a Sondek LP12 featuring an inspector Klouseau perhaps. Sounds like you have been on quite a journey. Please email [email protected] with your details and we can provide you with options via Linn and our contacts in the US for the next chapter with your beloved 'old goose' or something Majik and beyond. Thanks for watching and the story of your LP12. Jon

That indicates you have a Thick volume. This method is for 'Static' or traditional volumes only. I will make another video covering recovery from all volume types (thick, thin, static) - the outline steps of this is shown at the end of the article here ripcaster.co.uk/Data_Recovery_from_Failed_QNAP_RAID_1

I had a ssd cache drive that failed and the 2 drives I have in raid 1 are ok but Qnap will not read the array now. If I have Linux on my PC (thats what I use), can I just mount one of the drive in disks section and find my files?

IF they are a 'static' volume then the method shown in the video will allow you to read the data off the drives. I'm working on another video that will show how to get data off all types of QNAP volumes (thick, thin, static). The basic steps for this are outlined at the end of this blog post: ripcaster.co.uk/Data_Recovery_from_Failed_QNAP_RAID_1

Two quality network switches with SFP ports will do the same for $200. - get a 48 port Switch and space out your cables 300mm instead of 30mm - use one network switch for your home network and connect your switch (dedicated for audio) to the main switch with FIBER Also, a quality multi-rail power supply you can not fit in this small box.

Brilliant, thank you so much for doing this set-up guide, really interesting. I've wanted an LP12 for about 40 years and thought of buying a second hand one from the 80s. Having seen this though and how much they've improved, but still looking the same, you've changed my mind and think I'll be buying a new one. I'll pop to your showroom to look at finishes.

Starts at over $5,000 USD. I don't have a problem with the price but I don't understand why they can't figure out a way to have them as a competed assembly ready to ship like most turntables. I understand it has that spring suspension but why not have a way to lock it for shipment?

All this will be happening at my house soon. My question is how does one level the speakers? I can see side to side leveling being done by placing a beam level across the two front feet of the base. However, front to back leveling seems more challenging. How do you do it?
@ripcastercouk
@ripcastercouk Ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. The base of the Linn 360 speaker has adjustable threaded spike feet at each corner. The locking ring is then used nnce you have made the required adjustments. Your dealer will perform all the setup for you - so you don't need to do anything. Enjoy the 360 when you get them - they are fabulous speakers. ripcaster.co.uk/linn_360_loudspeaker

@@ripcastercouk What I meant to ask is for front to back leveling, what type of level do you use, and where do you place it?
@michaelakamatsu
@michaelakamatsu 16 күн бұрын
Just went through the setup. Leveling turned out to be easy as the base is so rigid that a small level placed upon it will give accurate readings. Also, a 24 inch beam level can be laid across the feet as long as the lock nuts aren't installed. So side to side and front to back leveling can be achieved with either type of level.

So it’s up to the dealers to assemble this whole thing? Really?
@ripcastercouk
@ripcastercouk 2 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching you raise an excellent point... The Majik LP12 shown is calibrated to 33rpm using two adjustment screws by us the dealer. The Selekt LP12 and Klimax LP12 use electronic speed control featuring tachometer feedback. The video shows the whole assembly process performed by us the dealer as part of the customer service to ensure you get the best from your records - this isn't something the customer does. The musical information stored on the grooves of a record is small and subtle. You need a turntable that is correctly setup to extract this information from the record. It is simply not possible to ship a delicate piece of equipment through a courier system and expect it to arrive correctly calibrated.

@@ripcastercouk I live in Hawaii. There was a Linn dealer here many years ago but he moved away. I think I could probably set one up if I had the jig and associated tools but I must say it looks very methodical and mindfully slow going! I have a Sota with SME IV but haven’t used it in years. Sota has a convenient speed control knob for adjustment.

Why on earth do hifi manufacturers exclude USB C input? It would make more sense to make a DAC that had ONLY a USB C input on the back than to make this without USB C. What would I want this product for? Plugging in an iPad. Do I want to add a CD player or anything else? No. Do I understand that other people do want to add other input units? Yes, of course. But no USB C? That is pure negligence

I love that colour. I didn’t realise that the dealer had to do the complete build, no wonder Linn love their dealers! I bought one as my retirement present last year and absolutely love it and my dealer came and installed it and took a couple of hours to listen to some of my music collection. That’s what I call customer service. I wish Linn would do an official budget 2 speed power supply similar to the Hercules as I don’t like the faffing about involved with the adapter. In fact I use a second deck a Linn Basik with my old Ittok and K9 for my 45’s. A third deck a new Rega P3 is used as well with Audio Technica’s AT610mono cartridge for my growing collection of 1960’s mono records. All wall mounted so that they all fit nicely together. Great video by the way.
