Looks great, I'm here because although I like the low price of the JDs garage cnc I cannot get over the one sided cantilever design. I just couldn't bring myself to build something with a fundamental lack of rigidity. Especially when accuracy is the goal. Thanks for the videos. Agree with others all holes should have used drill press. Tubing wall too thin, definitely need anti crush tubes on that thin wall tubing.

Their ideas aren’t their ideas. JD directly copied (badly) the horrible Langmuir machine. In fact the Langmuir machine is actually a Chinese table once fraudulently branded as a USA machine. There’s not a single original component or design on the JD machine besides the swap from Langmuirs flimsy ACME screws to belts. Other then that they copied every single component including the linear bearing blocks.

Have you considered simplifying the design in order to reduce the price of that bearing block? I.e. Mounting the torch clamps directly to the block to remove a part and the slot on the face, using supported round rails on the gantry instead of the custom ball bearing setup to greatly reduce the machining required. If you switch to a 50x100mm / 2x4in (vertical) gantry, it would allow you to put two rails across the front, meaning that the "bearing block" is now just a flat plate that you could plasma cut out of thicker steel. (Then you can use some folded steel with a welded gusset for the motor support) That's the approach I'm leaning towards on my build, I just thought I'd point that out because the supported round rails are really cheap especially when you consider custom parts like this.
@ThyialIndustries11 күн бұрын
I've definitely seen that style before. But with this being my first build and all... i figured i would just try and get it done rather than trying to perfect each aspect. there's definitely a lot of improvements that can be made from cost to accuracy to ease of assembly. Im just taking one step at a time!

The 3d print should have been printed in its side, that way the layers are printed around the corner, stacking them on a weak point is asking for a break, also more skin layers 6 is a good starting point.. like what your doing keep it up..

Sadly JD sell that on their website printed like you see here in the video. I decided to print it from two parts and bolt it together rather then printing on it's side because I was afraid holes won't be precise enough
@jsaction337 күн бұрын
@@mrkonrady22With certain materials and the right settings it doesn't really matter what orientation you print your parts. The part basically becomes a uniform crystal. When you break it you can't see the 3dp lines in it anymore.

I have to defend 3D printing a little bit because: I literally dissected and made my own part (in precise metric measurements, since I'm european), aaand printed it from two parts! No weird weak L shape, just two beautiful plates bolted together. I also used PLA+ (PLA enhanced with other plastics) with which I do a lot of moving parts. Bolts are also threaded into robust brass inserts, where I could I replaced plastic threads with captive stainless nuts. It cost me just time. But yeah, I dream of having alu parts one day too 😂

Ive already tried this method and it caused a massive rat outbreak. I moved on to a chicken tractor and a regular feeder that I hang and always go out to feed a small amount once per day. The large trash can method might be fine though if you had like a 100 chickens all eating that up in like 1 or 2 days. I found that if you keep the chickens hungry in the morning, they will be encouraged to go out and forage for bugs and free range and then you go out and feed them towards the late evening before it gets dark, since you can make them follow you back into the coop/chicken tractor along with a tiny little solar light inside the coop.

No electrical engineer I know knows how to weld. When I graduated from mechanical engineering, I thought of rewarding myself The most amazing prize of all was an inverter MMA welding machine (But before that, it is necessary to get to the basics. My first internship was at a state-owned freight wagon factory and there they taught us welding We even did mig welding in a Lincoln electric brand simulator for the first try. Then we moved on to the part where wagon bumpers are manufactured. I learned about arc welding when I became friendly with the people there. Also on a welding machine with copper winding.) When I first bought the machine, I was so happy that it hurt my eyes because I was looking at the welding without a mask. Later, I continued my work by repairing defective TZDK product trailers, cultivators and plow tines in our village. I continued with the rutile electrode 6013 first and then the basic electrode 7018. So the whole story is enthusiasm Recently, a familiar hardware store advertised a 220 volt mig welding machine. I will buy it in the future and continue

Good idea. I have an unrelated question.Have you ever welded a square profile? I use box profiles a lot, especially in the construction of garden gates. I used two types of electric arc welding machines. Inverter and transformer type While the 2.5 mm 6013 electrode pierces the profile in a short time with the inverter type machine, the transformer welding machine with the same current does not pierce the profile. What do you think is the reason for this? And are transformer type welding machines suitable for welding thin materials?Note: I have an inverter type machine
@ThyialIndustriesАй бұрын
To be honest I don't know a whole lot about that topic. The only thing I do know is that inverters operate at way higher efficiency than transformers. I also haven't done a lot of stick welding. But I know trying to weld thin materials is tougher with that process

I'm not knocking your ideas but you really need to configure a THC, torch height controller to help your plasma cutter do what its supposed to do. There are a ton of simple DIY examples of a controllable Z-axis that won't cost very much to add to your system. You'll thank me the first time you cut thin material and it warps from the heat. Its also a key factor to rate of consumables wear.
