I first visited Springfield as a kid in 1979 when we moved to Alexandria, so this was cool to see😁. By then, they had opened a Chi-Chi’s restaurant in the Springfield Plaza area, and that was our favorite place to go for special occassions🤣. That was a Springfield highlight for us, besides the Mall, of course😁

It’s changed a lot since I grew up in the 90s there but it’s nice to see a ton of buildings that still stand. Most don’t but at least it’s not all erased

I was born in the late 80's...do you have any footage of Springfield, or Burke from 80's/90's? Cool video though! The nostalgia hit hard at the Springfield Mall giant numbers to show the movie theaters.

Springfield hasn’t changed much. Had the County planned for massive mixed use at Springfield, Baileys, Merrifield, and Tysons 40 YEARS AGO we could have saved open space and farmland in Chantilly, Centreville, Herndon, and Eastern Loudoun and protected the Bay from sediment, phosphorus, and nitrogen stormwater runoff. Unlike Montgomery County, Fairfax County thought single use sprawl was a better idea. The mainstream media never went back and asked the County leaders hard questions about their decisions.

Thanks for the memories! I went to Longwood from 1990-94 and remember when the area where the library is was still a parking lot.
