Retired from a large hospital and never know they are held to a tighter voltage distortion. Had hundreds of drives from 3 to 1750 HP and our great start up tech said that we were the only place that had equipment on line side & load side of most drives dealing with harmonics and voltage distortion. About 5 years ago at an IAEI class they said Japan is experimenting with supplying DC panels to large buildings. This would eliminate the need for rectifier and cheaper power supplies to equipment and reducing air conditioning loads. Think they hope to save at least 5% over all between power & AC savings.

Two things: Do 18 pulse VFD'S produce or handle harmonics better then they standard 6 pulse drives? Read some where that some cheap cheating china LED'S have a low power factor as low as 0.5 . Do such low power factor LED''S produce more harmonics then one say above 0.9 PF?. Tech from two separate drive companies said to stay away from 18 pulse drives but we have a lot of them in a new 12 story building ( all drives 30 HP & higher have 18 pulse drives except for soft start on 200 HP fire pump ). Do the newer think they are called active line reactors with their contactors & capacitors much better then plain Jane line reactor? Thanks for nice vid.

Hi dear, I have ACS 800 VFD, I am getting fault in DSU rectifier module. 2330. Current unbalance. Can u help how I can fix this issue. Even I changed module with new one. But same fault is coming.

Had a building with over 200 ABB drives from 5 to 200 HP. all motors above 40 HP were 18 pulse. Found ABB to be slower then the slowest boat from China to get accurate information. Took me several back & forth emails over two weeks for morons to tell me how to find DC Buss voltage. Thought I would need a top security clearance to get thus one simple answer. At that time we had no books on drives. Another time wanted to know why they have expensive 13" exhaust fans running 24/7 on chiller pump 200 HP drives that do not run all winter but they liked to turn & try all pumps at least once a month. Told the clown that better company Danfoss have a thermostat to turn fans on.Worst tech support around!

In ACS580 Medium voltage VFD, there are total 5 power modules are installed for each phase. If we found fualt 5010 that power module has some problem and there is need to change it. I want to ask that whether we may operate VFD by removing that faulty power module and also one each from other two phases? Mean 4 power modules on each phase.

Correction @ 1:25 To be specific/accurate, actually harmonics *are* sinusoidal voltages and currents. Their *sum* is what results in a non-sinusoidal voltage or current.

Do you have agent in Malaysia...? In My cormercial building we have use ABB drive for all motors likes as pump chiller and others application...the problem is very hard to find the repair workshop in Malaysia...pls let me know if you have any infomation..pls

Good luck prying info out of ABB prima donna tech support. Aholes did not want to even give me info how to find DC Buss voltage that I needed to record for twice yearly PM'S. Had to send 4 emails and take over 2 weeks to get this. Did not have any books on drives at the time. Called them a gew more times and gave me a hard time. Danfoss tech support was great.

Is it safe to test a 5HP unloaded motor on a 2HP VFD? I understand there is protection built into the VFD but I don't want to destroy my 2HP VFD.
