I'm not sure why anyone would use a film instead of polycabonate hard plastic. Even 1/8 thick polycarbonate has to be stronger than film, it needs to siliconed on the window edges, and held down with the window trim as it is not self adhesive. Its also available in 1/4 thickness when conditions allow for thicker plastic.
@ave649
@ave649 8 күн бұрын
Film thickness is critical. If too thin it will not work . 8mm should be good for small windows, and 10mm for large windows.

Does it stay comfortable after prolonged use? Any hotspots? Does that curve in the handle improve its usability in your experience? -Rusty
@Yiannis2112
@Yiannis2112 10 күн бұрын
@@Equip2Endure Yes, its quite comfortable overall. However, at first you'll have to get used to that bump, as it obviously is different from the usual, conventional designs. At first it feels, lets say somewhat awkward. After a while, I realized it feels natural, ergonomic and I'd rather have it, than not. But its not a game changer. About hotspots, I guess it always depends on the size of the hand. For hands with medium sized palms and medium length, plus thin fingers, like mine, it's close to ideal. So no hotspots. Also, the finish on the birch is neither gloss nor matt. So, the handle is not slippery with naked and fairly sweaty hands and also not abrasive with naked dry ones. Many say, the correct thickness of a bushcraft scandi blade is 3mm maximum and this one's 4mmm. They say that the thicker the blade, the more abrupt the angle of the scandi grind is and the thicker the blade is behind the edge. Thus resulting to control issues and less performance, in let's say wood biting tasks. May be, less strenth of the edge itself, too. Especialy with crosswise, material removing tasks, there's a risk of bad chipping. I understand all that and theoretically I agree. It surely makes sense. Practically though, I have no say in this debate, as I don't have a 3mm one. All I can say, is that it doesn't feel cumbersome, as it processes soft and medium hardness wood, easily. Notches, whittling, fine work etc are a joy and had no problems with edge retention, strength and precision work. Used it about a dozen times so far, quite extensively and mostly on wood, during day long hikes and stropped it just twice. TBH, just for the sake of it. No problems with rust, but I tend to clean it often with a cloth, regardless of it being stainless. That fingerguard is also deep enough to feel safe. Quite a few scandi knives are not like that and for an average experience guy, like me, that is a necessity. Better safe, than sorry.

Im not a fan for emergency situations for ultra light gear. The primary concern for back packing is WEIGHT. Durability is much further down the list. Im a big fan of KellyKettles. They are GREAT for QUICKLY boiling water and hold a good amount of water. Because of their design they use a very small fire that does not need much wood/fuel. Everyone is Gaga about bugout bags and out door living strategies. This is nonsense. All but the very best prepared and physically fit, young wont last long outdoors. Your odds of Long term survival are best if you can stay in your home. Your odds skyrocket if you have a network of people who will work together for the common good of their group.

Situations that cause you to break out emergency food are almost ALWAYS accompanied by strong levels of hunger. HAVING emergency food that TASTES GOOD IN A NORMAL situation means that they will takes like heaven in an emergency which is great because it will help to boost morale!

I live in OC and have been in numerous precarious situations with men approaching me, following me and trying the engage me in parking lots.. with all three of my children in tow.. I felt so vulnerable in that situation. If one person distracted me Md another tried to take one of my kids.. I would want a fire arm bc at the very least they would drop my kid and run at the sound of a shot.. plus I’m one woman with three small kids.. I’ll be damned if someone is going to hurt any of my babies!

@@Equip2Endure oh most definitely, I like having the carabiner hooked onto my bag, I like having the non biner one for my roof rack for tie downs since its outside a lot more in rain and stuff. I also found out that you can use the biner one like the non biner one, like you don't have to have a loop on the rope to clip on the end you can actually wrap the cord around a few times then use the #1 sides top and slide the cord back through the twists and it holds it in place from tension, no need to actually use the clip

If you already carry a USB power bank or portable solar panel for your phone then a plasma lighter is almost a no-brainer. Spark wheels CAN be great for one handed emergency use, but you need to carry a something that ignites straight to flame when hit with a spark instead of a tinder that only gives you an ember like char cloth. I keep a small pill capsule on the same keyring as my spark wheel, stuffing it with cotton balls and petroleum jelly in case I really need fire in an emergency. The capsule can be opened one handed with some effort, but I can always grip it with my teeth and spin the keychain to open it if my dexterity is compromised. The capsule can be replenished with natural tinders like fatwood scrapings, shredded birch bark, evergreen resin, Usnea lichen, etc.., or I can replenish it with items I carry for other purposes, such as lip balm, antibiotic salve, duct tape, toilet paper, beeswax, etc.. One mistake I see far too often is using way too much petroleum jelly than is necessary to get a fire going. If your tinder and kindling prep went well and it's not soaking wet, you can smear a tiny amount of chapstick or petroleum jelly on your fingertip and rub it on the end of some twigs or a featherstick to make them take a spark very easily. This also works on grasses, candle wicks, etc..

I paid £30 for the Husqvarna axe, £42 for the carpenters axe, and £25 for the hatchet. All are perfect! Great grain orientation, far superior to gransfors bruks. And now Husqvarna axes have become more popular, the prices have doubled. But far cheaper than other makers. They are far better than all the rest!

I just watched a similar video with the Peak Refuel meals. You used the 1-5 scale, but your designations were different. I think the designations on the scale made more sense on the other video. I take a small container of Creole seasoning with me and I sprinkle a little on my egg meals or anything that could use a little kick. I don't know why they don't adjust the water or the size of the chunks for the eggs in those egg meals. I also picked up some freeze dried veggies that I sometimes add to some of the bland meals that don't have a lot of vegetables in them; things like peas, carrots, corn, and broccoli that rehydrate nicely. I usually just toss them into my water while I bring it to a boil, then stir it in with the noodles or rice meal to give it a little more pizazz.

For a really frugal and free alternative I save used toilet paper. Dry it on a windowsill. Keep cooking oil in a pan. Simply add some old candles then dip in the used, dried toilet paper. Save paper, save water, save poo, save the planet.
