Reminds me of Mies's Crown Hall on the Illinois Tech campus in Chicago. Probably my favorite Mies building! Will need to visit this museum next time I'm in Berlin.

I love that this project was undertaken and completed, but I can't help but wonder if the creators were rushed or what their thoughts are on the final product. Regardless, it's a very cool achievement and I don't by any means intend to disparage it with the following comments: I find it interesting how (seemingly) little effort was put into dialing in the printing and post-processing of these giant 3D printed segments. Incomplete weld seams, giant globs from layer starts/stops, massive layer shifting mid-segment. I don't particularly understand the "droopy" sides of the bridge where it meets the canal wall and sidewalk bricks either. Maybe it's just an artistic choice? It looks somewhat unplanned/haphazard. I also find it interesting how in the time lapse virtually nobody appears to stop and take time to really inspect the bridge itself. Maybe as an additive manufacturing enthusiast I see it differently, but I would probably spend half an hour or more just poking around this thing looking at and touching it. Thanks for uploading this great video!
@architecturetour22 күн бұрын
I think those imperfections might be due to the current limitations of 3D printing technology, which can result in a somewhat rough appearance. Indeed, during the time I was filming, no one stopped to closely inspect the bridge. Many people might not have even realized how unique the bridge was. Additionally, the bridge was temporary and experimental. It has since been replaced by a regular bridge.

@@architecturetour You're correct in your thought that these things are inherent challenges in 3D printing. As someone who has worked extensively in the additive manufacturing industry (and as a hobbyist in my private life) I can say with certainty that it would have been possible to rectify the issues mentioned. Having said that, it could have also been an artistic choice to reinforce the visuals and distinguish it as a different method of construction. Would love to have an opportunity to speak with the creators about their methods and decision making. Either way, thanks for the response and keep up the cool videos =)

This structure needs to have grounds that are far stretching, away from all the roads and traffic and the surrounding buildings, to really manifest its grandeur. And that is not going to be easy.

Many famous churches are located in city centers, which helps them become part of the urban culture, facilitates worship for believers, and makes them accessible to visitors, even though a more expansive site might further enhance their grandeur.

The only purpose to build such a monstrous tasteless megalithic bunker is to drive people crazy and increase schizophrenia. Such typical outcry of modern/postmodern "architecture" serves unhealthy ambitions. Disgusting! Vulgar! Disastrous!

I don’t understand…. Why on earth, as an architecturally-focused channel, would you take the time and effort to walk the wall circuit, make this video, and release it, yet walk straight past most of the most interesting parts like the larger towers and corner bartizans, with barely a couple seconds passing glance if that? Not to mention completely overlooking some of the more interesting smaller features like the extremely unique inward-facing wall-top embrasures meant to cover the approach to the church, etc? Kindof an interesting video hi suppose, but I have to admit I expected something a little more in depth…
@architecturetour6 ай бұрын
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I must admit I did overlook quite a few interesting parts, and I'm not very familiar with the aspects you mentioned. I appreciate your suggestions, and I'll pay attention to those areas the next time I visit. This channel focuses more on documenting my visits to contemporary architecture. I do lack knowledge about ancient architecture, and I'll work on learning more about it in the future. Thank you for watching and providing feedback.
