The main reason why Lucas doesn't pick between Riley and Maya is because he doesn't want to hurt Maya's feelings or Riley's feelings even though it's obvious that he likes Riley more. His character isn't like that (this was later mentioned in the show).

the library also represents the start of his "friendship" with Riley. One of their fists scenes alone was when they were in the library together.

Literally the only reason the writers just had to include the Maya and Lucas relationship was because the fans wanted it, thought they were flirting with each other but from the beginning, it has always been Lucas and Riley, the same with Maya and Josh. Sometimes I don't understand what the writers want, if they want rucas to be endgame then why do they keep cutting their scenes. And I still can't get over the fact that MJ was more focused on Corey Fogelmanis (Farkle)'s reaction to Riley's departure than her own boyfriend. Part of me thinks that if this show goes on longer they will use rucas as a lesson that not all first loves last forever

I don't agree, sorry. Maya couldn't watch because she was scared that he get killed and add to the list of people that abandoned her. Yes, Lucas was ticked that she left... and grateful to Riley for staying. He needed support, too. (Here's a secret ladies... you think society programs you? It programs us, too. We're programmed to be strong, independent, providers for you. But, deep down, we need love and support too. We don't always tell you we had a rough day... again, programmed not to... but just watch us... you might be surprised to see that it's an act for your benefit.) Anyway, he ignored Maya because he was hurt... then, before he can recover an even keel, Riley friend zones him. At that point... he's probably a mess inside with noone to clean him up. I don't think Lucas ever get jealous when he sees Maya with someone else, but he gets jealous whenever he sees Riley talking to someone else. At first he was jealous that riley let charlie see his notebook at the Semi-Formal but in the end Lucas admitted that Charlie was a nice guy and trusted him. And girl meet new year coming up, he says that he still likes Charlie besides his weird bow. But when Charlie said they were going to play a couple game he was really jealous and when charlie answered the question he interrupted. I mean, I thought he trusted him and became friends? Then there's Evan, he's jealous that riley talks to Evan all night and when Evan says "sometimes with the right people you can talk all night" he gets mad and wants to kick a tree. Maya has to calm him down and when maya says she will choose her and says you and me forever. Lucas face looks like it's not you but I don't want to hurt you and then Maya says she's just joking. He actually said in front of the class that the most important relationship is him and Riley, when he saw Riley hugging farkle his face was like jealous but also feeling bad about the story and you should see Lucas face when farkle said to Riley that Pluto will always be be a planet in his room. Even he is jealous when she's with his best friend

the only reason that Lucas and Riley ended up together is because the writers decided. Even afterwards, they admitted IT WAS THE WRONG CHOICE.
