Love the story about Smart Little Lena!! You should compile all these stories in a book and name it the history of Horses.

Rescued one of Smart Little Lena's direct descendants from a kill buyer sending horses into Mexico for slaughter. I hope more people do more to stop this and help to do more to keep our horses safe from this cruel fate. Thank you

I bought a used Big Horn saddle recently. When I turned it over, I noticed about a 1 1/2" split just about under the seat. Can I still use it or will it get worse? TY

I'm glad to see a good old-time saddle maker using Channel Locks on conchos. Sometimes you have to use whatever will get the job done. When I'm cleaning up and detailing a customer's saddle, I often find where the saddlemaker or someone after him has put the conchos in with more force than necessary or has tried to make a new hole where it shouldn't be. I've seen the screws come back out with an almost "S" bend in them. NOTHING will get that concho out except Channel Locks. Whenever I have to use Channel Lock pliers I pay more attention to protecting the silver than I do the leather. The leather underneath the concho is usually a simple rosette which can be replaced if necessary for less than a buck a piece. Sometimes the concho is put in at such a bad angle that it's already chewed into the leather on the bottom while the top of the concho is still 1/8 of an inch away. I always have to correct that situation by filling the hole with wood putty and then redrilling. You always want your concho to be in contact with the leather on all edges. You never want a 1/8 inch gap. That's where clothing and other tack can get hung up and cause an accident/injury.

Casey was one of a kind her used to tell my nana don’t get worried at the horse races at DelMar. He’d then roll down the stairs acting like he tripped just to cause a big scene then get up just laughing and scratching. So many stories I’m proud to say I was named after Casey and loved to go to his ranch in Ramona Ca and ride

I just hope and pray Taylor Sheridan keeps his word and the four sixes remains the four sixes as it is and we love. I hope HOLLYWEIRD DOESN'T overtake and TOTAL DESTROY that part of Texas HISTORY like that DISGUSTING BUNCH FROM HOLLYWEIRD has done to what USE TO BE another part of Texas HISTORY. The Fort Worth Stockyards is slowly loosing it's HISTORY and becoming another Disneyland. 😪😪 All l can say. DON'T CALIFORNIA OUR TEXAS.

Thank you for this! My rosette and concho came off of my old Billy Cook. There are 2 holes, one still has the nail sticking out. Do I need the pain in the @$$ type concho you mentioned or is the other hole to secure the rosette?

I have a 12 yr old Medicine Hat tovero APHA stallion MrBlueMoonMedicineMan, who is 25% Skipper W, and 25% race bred thru his dam, and 25% Red Sonny Dee and 25% Mr Norfleet thru his sire. He is built like a tank just like his dam, 15.2 1/2 hands and 1,400 lbs with 1 grand and 9 reserve grands in three shows as a yearling and I am not a trainer with the expert knowledge to prepare him. He is a gentle horse that my little granddaughters can ride and is one of the best horses that the trainer ever had when he was put under saddle as a two year old. Sure would be nice to find some Skipper W mares to breed him to as they would surely be some heavy muscled good minded horses!

How much is a tree replacement? I don’t think it’s broke, but if it is, it’s worth replacing. It was my grandpa’s saddle he won for all around in college back in 1964

It’s all got to do with money and the government, bcoz if they inherit it they have to pay inheritance tax which is millions plus property tax which is millions as well and property tax you pay every year so either way UNCLE SAM is squeezing your nipple so hard it’s turning PURPLE, you can’t win.

I think it’s a good deal for someone truly interested in the horse business buying the 6666. Much better than someone from New York city’s stock market buying it to make a profit on it no matter what happens.

Any ideas for removing screw in conchos that have lost the actually concho but the threaded stem remains sticking out of the saddle ?
@Leathermedia1
@Leathermedia1 2 жыл бұрын
If there’s enough screw sticking out of the leather to grab, I use an end cutting pliers like you’d cut nail ends off when you’re shoeing a horse. I grab the exposed end and only squeeze enough to barely bite the metal. I turn it enough to get it started and when I can, I switch to a regular plier. If it’s buried down in the leather, I remove the leather rosette , and that will give me more exposed screw. Thanks!
@Rowels_Darling
@Rowels_Darling Жыл бұрын
If there is enough left to grab, VISE-GRIP pliers - they come in many different sizes and styles and are available at any hardware dept. They have a locking mechanism so that you do not have grab and regrab and they do not slip if you get them tight enough. If there is not enough above the surface of the leather, most hardware stores sell screw retractor bits for electric and cordless drills and they're not too expensive. If you need to remove a lot of broken screws, it would be a good investment.
