Hi Craig, the mill looks great... I have enjoyed my PM728VT for 2 years now and its working fine. I'm upgrading it to CNC-hybrid with clear path servo's and also looking at a TTS tool holder. Did you upgrade the spindle motor? Is there an encoder on it? Also, who made the TTS pneumatic motor? I also plan to use a Masso for my phase 2. By the way, I mounted my mill on a tool chest from Extream Tools on a 1/2" AL plate to spread the weight. It's also on hydraulic wheels so I can move it around when needed.
@CraigHollabaughАй бұрын
Thanks, no spindle upgrade, spindle encoder is only for RPM, no idea on TTS motor. The Masso is nice, has a few quirks but it's easy to use. Wi-Fi file transfers is great as well. Nice work on your mobile setup. I need something like that.

... for avoiding charcoal, you can spraypaint the PCB, then remove only 90% of the copper, and last remove the last remains with acid (I've used 1:1:1 30% Hydrochloric acid, 30% H2O2 and Aq.Dest). Or use PCB's with aluminium-core, then you can remove all the copper and the ceramic isolator beneath (the aluminium core is pretty resistant against the fiber-laser).

Craig, what a great series with Fat Willie. I waited to post until I had seen all 7 segments. Great work on this man! I'm extremely late in discovering it of course but it brought back a lot of memories talking to Willie the few times I was in his shop. I met him there around '91-2, I think, when hearing about him related to tube amps. I think he worked on my '62 Fender reverb tank and possibly my Vibrolux Reverb back then. They are both in good order today. I only found out about Willie's passing yesterday (2.28.24) from another musician/tube amp nut like most of us. Willie and I were fairly close in age (he's 7 yrs older) but I didn't know he got his start in tube education in the Navy. That hits home with me bc it was the identical thing my dad did when in the Navy. When he got out he joined Western Electric in the late 40's. He knew more about tube technology that anyone I was ever around. In about segment 6 or so, I heard Willie mention Fistell's. I knew Howard. Mark, and Darlene (the kids) from buying supplies there. It's tough to see all these old tube guys pass and/or stop working. This was one of the most enjoyable video segments I have ever watched bc of the personal connection. It was such a great experience to visit 230 Broadway. Thanks again for a timeless and memorable piece.

You need a Crain air lifter (look it up) that uses two air powered panels hooked to a small 2 HP pump. Look at flooring supply stores or Amazon. Cost roughly $500, but you may be able to rent one. Slick as snot on a door knob!

It's a pity the voltage is in a little bit higher, because I have have read a white paper on Texas Instruments or Analog Devices, I can't remember which, where they describe the method of using a low noise linear voltage regulator to clean up switching noise.
@CraigHollabaugh5 ай бұрын
that's a common approach for cleaning up a switching PS is to follow it with a linear one. However you might need a high voltage ground referenced voltage.

I realize I'm extremely late to this video, but the discrepancy between the measurements regarding the Amp meter are far less than originally observed. The Amp meter in the box actually read "0.7" amps. Which is closer to the observed reading from the In-line Clamp meter. So the readings are as close as an analog meter, without a parallax correction mirror, can achieve really. The other discrepancies between source side and isolation side can be attributed to the Isolation Transformer itself. The build is amazing, and looks exquisite. With a few minor tweaks to the CNC table, and operation processes, you'll be dialed-in nicely. Great work.

You may get issues if converting to a solid body as Fusion gives a warning for meshes over 10K triangles saying that it will take a considerable amount of time. It's also possible that operations may fail for other reasons. I've found it's also not great at offsetting meshes reliably. I hit these issues recently when creating a glove mold for an stl model, and in the end had to go to Blender, add a modifier to offset the model along the normals (worked perfectly), then back into Fusion with the new mesh and doing a mesh reduce to make it workable.
@CraigHollabaugh6 ай бұрын
Yeah, my business partner who green lit the purchase says a pass through blender first is normal workflow. Thanks for the comment, as you can tell I'm new to this.
