My wife and I have stayed at the White Lion at Cray for a couple of nights, and I'd highly recommend it if you want peace and quiet or enjoy star gazing. There's NO traffic on the road outside between around 8pm and 8am, and almost zero light pollution, plus it makes a great starting point for walks. Going south from the pub along the crest of the hill is almost level and gives you a fantastic view of upper Wharfedale - perhaps one of the best views in the Dales !

Lots of these stolen, one time, Catholic churches, which were occupied by protestants as places of worship, are white washed inside, probably because of puritanism. When the white wash is removed one can find wonderful art revealing the tenets of the Christian faith.

Brilliant that Rich, and even better that your in my neck of the woods, a interesting church for you to check out, if you've not already, is the one at Dinsdale right next to the banks of the river Tees. I was over walking the wasteland at the Gar the other day and the abundance of wild flowers there was amazing, if you have a look at the vid I did, called wildcamping in the vango torridon, at the end as I'm walking back I stop and look at some flowers, I've no idea what they were but maybe you could help identify them ? Anyway I've subbed and will be watching your other vids today, Atb Mick 👍👌

Hi from Japan. The church seems very romantic to me even more so because it is isolated. We have as many as 20,000 deserted temples out of more than 70,000 in total all over our country, which is really a serious problem these days. There seems to be no immediate solutions. Thank you as always😊

That sign and the gothic style gravestones shows the church has been used a lot more recently than the Black Death but a lot of these isolated churches are usually found where there once stood a village wiped out by the plague, the fields around them are usually ‘hillocky’ where nature has reclaimed the land over the derelict village.

The saddest thing about this country now I think is our loss of Christianity and our heritage. I don’t like saying I’m a Christian now because people look at you like you’re stupid. We’ve lived for thousands of years with Christianity and people think they all know better now. But I don’t think they do.
