Have issues when I power up the Hugo TT2. Using an Aurender N100, using USB connection, it doesn’t lock in and I get distortion. What would cause that? I have to cycle through the inputs to correct it.

You know what? Thanks for explaining how to use the gain switch correctly. I was listening to the Vali on Aeons and couldn’t figure out why it suddenly felt so muddy… turned the gain switch down… much better control, speed. Thanks!

Until Schiit bothers to distribute properly to the UK at a decent price (and stops discontinuing products they haven't actually replaced), I can't and won't consider them good value. Trying to get hold of their stuff at a fair price isn't usually worth my time. Every other HiFi manufacturer seems to manage just fine.

As a "high-end" manufacturer of audio components, Great American sound Co. or GAS Co. was continually approached by "golden-eared audiophiles" claiming the amplifier or preamplifier they owned clearly sounded superior to any of the GAS Co. products we were producing. I would always invite these individuals into the sound room with their preferred audio component and proceed to connect it to the switching system. I would have them select a comparable GAS Co. component that I also connected to the system and then carefully adjusted both components with a precision AC voltmeter for equal levels. Before the testing commenced, I would give the audiophile the remote lanyard--a small handheld box with a toggle switch labeled A or B. I always told them that the "A" position was their piece of equipment and the "B" position was the GAS Co. equipment. After exhaustively auditioning the two components, the golden eared individual would always have a litany of subjective terms that negatively described the sound of the GAS Co. component such as: "overall dullness", "lack of transparency", "ill defined bass", "irritating midrange", "shrill highs", "lack of depth", "unstable imaging"..... ad nauseam. While the audiophile was espousing these opinions, I would bring the level of the music back up, then casually walk over to the components, switch off the power to the GAS Co. component and ask the audiophile to please toggle the lanyard switch between A and B. Unbeknownst to the audiophile, I had connected the switching system exclusively to their component only. During the test when they switched from A to B, the sound audibly dropped-out during the switching process for a few milliseconds cueing the listener that something had changed. When the audiophile realized that I had clearly demonstrated that their golden ears were not golden at all, they would quickly disconnect their component from the system, and while stomping out of the listening room, turn around, and, depending on how invested they were in believing they had golden ears, generally espouse a litany of profanities directed at me. Don't shoot the messenger! I repeated these same A/B listening tests many times with various individuals and groups and determined there was a direct correlation between audiophiles and lovers of music; audiophiles were always angered; music lovers were always enlightened, especially women! This same switching system was also utilized for loudspeakers and phono cartridges since GAS Co. was selling "Sleeping Beauty" "moving-coil" phono cartridges made by Coral Corp. in Japan. There was no need try to fool the listener as I did with electronics, switching between different loudspeakers and phono cartridges always produced easily discernible audible changes in the musical timbre characteristics. I've caught myself out a few times wrongly thinking I knew which DAC was connected to which input of an amplifier. It's fun not knowing. I made finding out I'm wrong something that's fun. I'm not surprised that there are plenty of people who don't feel that way! 😁

Look... I love hifiman. I have several of their products, in a range of prices. With that said.... There is absolutely no way that they're making a product that is 100% worth gambling 8k on. Their customer service leaves me wanting, most of all. I have no confidence in them to mass produce a product that will ship without issues 100% of the time. I have no confidence in them to treat a customer fairly, and replace a faulty part, 100% of the time. Batting out of order in my opinion. More power to those of you with the sort of disposable income that allows you to essentially just throw 8k in the trash (potentially).

As a very happy owner of the OG Utopia and a tube amp, I got to hear both Susvaras at the London Can Jam a few days ago and the OG Sus on a Feliks Envy is pure audio bliss. Not as punchy as the Utopia but a wonderful complement to it in terms of being a highly transparent and airy headphone. I didn't get to spend enough time with the new Sus but my impression was that it sounded bigger (soundstage) and a bit more "polite". I didn't get to A-B them from the same source, though. I had previously found the OG Sus rather unengaging and never considered buying it but knowing what it can actually sound like on a great tube amp makes me want to pull the trigger and finally upgrade my HEKse... 😀

They cost a maximum of $200 to manufacture, yet they sell for $8,000. It's a disgrace to the industry. I'll stick with my 20-year-old HD650, which outperforms any headphone at any price, delivering authentic, lifelike sound and timbre. I've reached this conclusion after owning nearly all top-of-the-line headphones.

@sebanambrus9265
@sebanambrus9265 21 күн бұрын
@@djhmax09 You need to experience life like music and concerts to have a reference point. If you're fixated on hearing minor details, like a single member of a big band orchestra sniffing his nose instead of the overall music, you're on the path to spending $10,000 on gear. Achieving a lifelike timbre is essential, and you can't get that from analytical headphones, as they focus on minute details rather than the overall sound.
@djhmax09
@djhmax09 21 күн бұрын
@@sebanambrus9265 yeah I have experienced real life music so I have good reference points. And you know what? Most of the time live music sounds like trash, unless you go to a well engineered acoustic hall, which I have. And I can absolutely hear everything from that, just like with totl headphones. I don't know about you but my goal isn't to replicate crappy sounding live music. You can absolutely get lifelike timbre from analytical headphones. The 650 isn't even representative of how timbre sounds like in real life when you're in a room. It's inaccurate in that way. When you listen to music you are listening to a recording, and that includes whatever distortion the room is adding into that. The timbre of an instrument is a slave to the space/room it's being played in, unless you play outside all of the time.
