I have a stock 05 Dodge 3500 4x4 diesel 6 speed manual long bed dullay and haul a large truck camper and 5 th wheel and was told a 64 mm turbo and this 5.9 is a HO motor 325 ho so what would you recommend an it’s 152K still has factory injectors water pump alternator fan and even still the intercooler that’s plastic and no problems so what would you recommend for turbo and going to put bigger sticks in it and no runner ?

those 8.1s are good motors, only thing i really hated compared to all my diesels is you definitely feel the difference in torque. i dont honestly think you will ever get a gas motor that compares to a diesel when towing and working them

Damn my TCM went out 2 years ago in my LMM and I got one from Ryan’s diesel in Wisconsin. I paid $660 bucks for it with a lifetime warranty. It only took about 2 days to get it in Louisiana where I live.

I don't know that diesel guys hate the 8100. It's the closest thing to a turbo diesel in gas form. What they hate is small block V8s that have to be wound up to do any work. With emissions regs where they are and turbo diesel complexity and reliability where it is, I guarantee there are a ton of diesel guys taking another look at gas.

Im building a lb7. Im planning on a compound turbo system. Im using a lbz block, balanced rotating assebly and thinking about the cast iron heads. Looking to get above the 700 to 1000 rear wheel horsepower range. Looking at yhe 14mm stroker injection pump with the supply pimp attached to it. Now the compound turbo kit. Looking towards the s480 with one step up over stock turbo but which one? This just a project ive always eanted to do. Any suggestions?

Until u get rid of the egr that destroys the engine u have gained nothing! Doesn't matter how much power u have if your truck it sitting with egr issues!

P026D is still on. Truck runs great. Bought scan tool and injectors seems to be pumping out close to readings. No misfires. I did notice the High Pressure fuel rail sensor 1 , number are red when I’m looking at my Autel Scanner. Idle around 4800 , not sure what’s the number supposed to be. 2018 Duramax

I’ve got a question and I hope you may be able to help with this I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 deleted and tuned with 177k miles and my engine light turned on and it said to change the fuel filter so I did and then about 500 miles later the same issue happened and it reduces engine power, I have a code reader and the code is “P0087 Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low Bank 1” if you have any advice please help!

Most of the videos I watch says to test the injectors. Okay sure, but then what? Can they be rebuilt? Or are we just replacing them anyways? I'm familiar with gas injectors, where they can be cleaned and re-used. Not sure if diesel is the same.

I have an lly with your built trans with the 6 speed conversion and built trans tuning I’m just shy of 600 with some fueling and air upgrades and no adjustment To tuning. I was told 530 I pushed that with a weak CP3 and boost leak lol.

I'm not sure why is horsepower the focus. Most people aren't operating in the rpm range where peak horsepower is calculated. I really like both of these engines. LB7 for heavy, consistent, long distance towing. 8.1L for weekend towing lighter stuff and daily driver. For those looking into performance mods for 8.1L, 8.8L heads are worth consideration along with a turbo or 2 (gap those rings accordingly). These even came in some Avalanch models.

STR for LLY-LMM? I'm in that weird Build or Buy era. 06 LBZ (vin 2) 142K miles. fully stock. I want more sustained power and less heat under load when pulling grades in 100F heat going from 900 to 3500 ft. I also travel up to Flagstaff, and sometime Colorado. so basically, everywhere in US elevation wise. I would like to get to +100 wheel, but I'm more looking for drivability vs a "xxxhp truck". I know tuning is a HUGE part for these dinosaurs, but the truck gets pretty cranky running 2800+ to hold speed on these grades. it will do it and never actually overheats (230-241 at top). but it's clear oil temps are driving coolant temps when sustained at that RPM at WOT for 7-8 minutes. oil temps would be from the squirters saving the pistons from EGT. (I'm told). The stack was disassembled and cleaned, upgraded to Kodiak clutch that dropped 15 ECT. could throw a rad at it. but I think its EGT mainly from trying to hold peak HP on stock turbo, combined with high ambient. that's why I am thinking turbo. it SHOULD let me climb up a gear and drop RPM from the extra power. thoughts?

Cordell, It sounds like you’re on top of your game. We are putting parts together and testing recipes for the VVT and LMLSTR package. I am optimistic that what we finalize will absolutely meet your expectations for controlling EGT’s’s while towing with that extra power. You’ve clearly done your research and know the critical importance of cooling your oil. Like you said, it’s the only thing keeping those pistons cool and protecting the turbocharger. I wish I could offer you an oil cooling solution but at this time I have nothing to offer aside from encouragement. Godspeed!

Fun fact. The MAS doesn't actually measure mass flow. It measures velocity and temperature. The engine computer calculates the volume flow from the cross sectional area of the air intake (where the MAS is located) and air velocity . It then calculates the mass flow from the volume flow rate and the air density via the air temperature. Strictly speaking it's not technically accurate, as it doesn't take into account relative humidity which affects air density to a substantial degree nor does it take into account height above sea level which also affects air density substantially.
