I might be judgy for thinking this, but people who got a spiritus sancti as their first plant irk me. Not because of jealousy, but because of all the plants you could start with, you chose to get one that is known to be so elusive in the wild, one that has such a high price tag attached to it, and one that has the greatest demand among all other plants in the plant community? What if it dies in your care because of your lack of experience? It feels like those people only chose this as their starter plant to feel a sense of superiority, without actually caring about having enough experience to keep a rare (in the wild) plant alive. Of course one could say that I don't know them personally so I' m assuming a lot, but their decision already says a lot about themselves for me

What is the long-term experience with adding sugar to your plants? Do they live longer, produce green leaves again or do the white leaves die at some point?

Ok let me tell yall why this is actually very cool so basically there is this math problem called the travelling sales man problem where a salesmen wants to reach all the houses in the fastest route but the problem is there are a lot like for example 10 houses and they are all randomly scattered and so if you do the math there are 10 to the power of 10 different ways to get to each house and so even the world’s best computers would explode trying to find the fastest route but the mold can somehow do it and so that’s why it’s really cool

Although I'm primarily a plant collector rather than a seller, I regularly import plants from all over the world. This has allowed me to acquire many rare and unique specimens, though my experiences with different sellers have varied. Most sellers I've encountered are decent people trying to make a living, but importing always requires careful judgment. I believe I know the seller you're referring to in this video-I met him at the same show. Since then, I've done at least a dozen imports with him. While I've had generally positive experiences with his plants, some have unfortunately perished. However, he has been fair and replaced them in subsequent shipments or at later shows. It's important to understand that importing plants carries inherent risks. To mitigate these, it's often necessary to import in volume and be prepared for potential losses.

I for one will love whenever you release the prop vid. I'm finally to the number of plants that I feel my small prop method isn't keeping up or doing well enough for me. Not that I have sold anything yet.. I was trying to get enough stock together and local word of mouth to sell locally before going online. >-<; I'm in a tiny town so our box stores and nursery's don't really get anything neat or colorful in.

Got 2 BMF's in 4" pots for $110 each, and lucky enough to find one double that size for $100 the same week. Keeping one for personal and two to prop & sell. Hopefully there will still be a bit of a market by the time all these TC's grow up.

P. hedaraceum variegated is not stable, at least not the one here. I was given some cuttings as a freebie with purchase last year with just the slightest traces of variegation left. It's totally green now, and still no sign that it will revert back to what it was. I'm putting that one on the seller because of how it already was going out. Love your videos, particularly when you do the investigative stuff!

My go to is albo monsteras because they sell well and they are recognizable for people getting into the hobby. I can buy a four leaf albo for 120 and cut it up and make my money and then some. Albos are no where going anywhere yet so I’m thinking of focusing more on them next year. The other plants sell but for less than 15 bucks in my area.

A mistake that i didn’t take account of until it was too late… Your mother plants grow BIG after awhile so make sure you have the space. I have a few mothers with such massive root balls regardless taking cuttings they still take up decent space…😵‍💫 and the cuttings that dont sell also grow big lol TC is cute and tiny now but they will eventually get there so be warned 😂

Unpopular opinion: I don't really like Monstera and will take non variegation first on most plants - but I mainly collect Anthuriums now. I think Anthurium hybrids are likely the biggest money makers individually. I see $400-$500 plants sell everyday on FB. If you can hybridize yourself and get 30 seeds at $60 a pop..well, you do the math. Some seedlings are $130 each. Imagine if you have 100?
@kindallnight1615
@kindallnight1615 2 күн бұрын
Yeah unpopular opinion. While anthuriums are gorgeous and there’s tones of potential there’s a problem with them. They’re more for collectors or intermediate buyers. They require more care and humidity than most are willing or able to provide.
@nicoleashleytellier284

@@kindallnight1615is your argument that the ease of sexual propagation and amount of seedlings to make your money back from investment in Anthurium not as valid because it's a niche market? Are you thinking it's harder to find a buyer for that? Maybe it's just where I shop, but certain hybrids have waiting list. People are literally just buying seeds for these plants and germinating themselves because they're such in a rush for it.
@kindallnight1615
@kindallnight1615 2 күн бұрын
@@nicoleashleytellier284No and yes my argument is that anthuriums are more niche and for experienced people especially the more rare ones. I know that anthuriums fetch a lot of money for seedlings but as easy as they are for collectors the average joe would struggle to keep them happy. While monsteras are relatively easy to care for and propagate then sell.
@marierejoiceinjesus3846
@marierejoiceinjesus3846 2 күн бұрын
Yep, you won't have a lot of buyers. The average person won't deal with them. Even then, it better be labeled "NSE" (or similar and with proof) if you want to have a collector spend hundreds.
@tortyreus2384
@tortyreus2384 2 күн бұрын
The problem with "rare" anthurium hybrids is that they're not special just because they're rare. And with the ease of making crossbreeds, the pricetag attached to rare hybrids is even more headscratching. I mean sure, they are rare, but so are the literally 10.000 other one-off anthurium hybrids, defeating the purpose entirely.

07:03 This will reduce absolutely the microbial load but it's not a guarantee of sterilization. The heating can be uneven causing hot and cold spots in the substrate which decreases the likelihood of complete sterilization. There's variability in the temperature needed and length of time needed among pathogens (example: bacteria can be killed in a few minutes but spores and some fungi require higher temperatures or longer exposure). Bacterial spores and certain fungal spores are very resistant to heat making it more difficult with a microwave. The water does help distribute the heat better but it can be conducive to some pathogens' survival. Also if it's not completely dried afterward that can also be conducive to survival as well. I'd actually be very interested in seeing a study on this. I've also heard of preparing TC media with a microwave instead of an autoclave. Anyway, I'm sure you're already aware of this but these products are expensive and if it works for anyway all the better! By the way, I appreciate this video. It goes very in depth with the finer points of TC acclimatization which I know can be very tricky first starting out. I hope this comment is received warmly as it is intended to. Thank you for posting it!

I don't understand why you would choose to go through the pains of importing plants that are readily available in your country or, even worse, plants that you already own! This is just ridiculous, especially since you could even propagate them yourself via TC. I've only done two imports so far, the first one was from Thailand and four out of five plants got root rot but I could still save them and never once thought of asking for a refund. My second import was from Japan and it went awry, my package took more than 3 weeks to reach me because it got stuck for more than 2 weeks and the customs clearance office for some unkown reason. The seller had even sent me a full refund without me asking before I could get my hands on my parcel! Again, I managed to make all of my plants survive, including a P. ilsemanii which is supposedly a difficult import and a Monstera compacta with its roots wrapped and damp sphagnum moss (no root rot but had lost both of its leaves). I just view importing as a way to add new plants to my local plant meta while challenging myself as a grower. I think that you should reconsider the reasons behind your importing because this ''plant flipping'' seems like a huge liability and a waste of time and resources (especially for plants that you already own, I just can't wrap my head around this one).
