My dad told me how in 1987 our band was going to play this piece to replace España after many years, but eventually a vote was held during a morning practice since nobody liked it and we ended up playing España that year and won the state championships

This is exactly (almost) the 1976 Watkins Glen Squires arrangement (Fabrizio/Calhoun) right down to many of the percussion accents/ rolls/etc.

Nothing against Furman Band but I I marched at Furman in 1983 and I don't recall we ever played One Voice? This is Jay Bocook's amazing arrangement for sure, no one can compose a horn line like Jay, I played mellophone in his high school and college band, and I'm 99% sure this is our Travelers Rest High School Golden Regiment performance in 1980, band director Vince Clayton, the year Jay moved to Furman. I marched at Furman in 1983 and I don't recall us ever playing One Voice? I only say this because we must have practice One Voice One million times, and I can still hear the parts we didn't do so well. I know the sound of that horn line when I hear it. We were fortunate enough to win 3-AAA State that year opened with Pictures at an Exhibition, Tigers of San Pedro, and closed with One Voice......, now those were good ol' days.

I really miss these arrangements from the 80's. Trying to find the sheet music is impossible as they are mostly out of print.

Yes, Rodney Bellamy said it best: I too tried and did sound exactly like the canned publication albums, created by Jensen Publications at the end of the late 70's and into the early 80's. I too am and became a professional trumpet player. Cut my teeth as 1st Chair for the entire four years at my high school. Again, as I listen to this cut, I have in-fact been waiting for these songs to someday reappear. Here, SunCat in essence, was the Little Brother or J. Bocock's very popular arrangement of 'Tiger of San Pedro.' ' Wholly Crap I used to love playing both songs. They were well written, not too difficult to play as high school students, and they really made high school bands sound very much like, say .. The Blue Devils, Santa Clara Vanguard, and lets not forget, The Phantom Regiment and The Madison Scouts. ...Wow again.. very nice memories, from a time that will never come again.., or at least until I hit the play button once again, lol. - Thanks for posting. - Peace. \\//

If you have any kids that need help with finding something to do, band is the best outlet for any kid. My son played the saxophone and going to football games and competitions were some of the most memorable times I remember with my son. This performance was at Indianapolis and was worth the expense. Love this performance the most.

FYI . . . .for younger generation of band students, these charts were freakin' tough. It took a special caliber of musicians to put these tunes together, especially on the field. Many high school bands attempted, some succeeded, others failed. It was the same scenario with numerous college bands.

Furman University, Oklahoma University, and Northeast Louisiana were the premiere marching bands for Jensen Publications. . . . then I remember in the middle '80's and later, was it Arizona or Arizona State did some monster recordings.

Showing this to my daughter who is approaching highschool with the decision to make between chorus and band. If she can watch this and still choose chorus, that must be where she is supposed to be? I don't get it, personally, chorus seems just boring to me. Love to sing tho! But the material is drab... big difference between what we played in band at lassiter and what they play in paulding county tho. That county really needs to step it up. In every department. She is a great kid though, she will excel in any path she chooses, no matter what county she is in.

There is NO comparison. Band (Marching and Concert) will have an everlasting effect on your daughter. The friends she will make, the discipline to get better. The competition, where she will leave it all on the field and in the auditorium. I went to Westfield and in 1995, we played right after Lassiter at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago. I believe Lassiter played Hindemeth that year.
