Another sad story of destruction and corruption of a previously local and charming location by adolescent western invaders and their self righteous , arrogant , entitled attitudes and hippie bullshit.( as is said here, ;once a quiet Shan country market ' --and WTF is a 'spiritual traveller'??

I have lived in Chiang Mai for 20 years and been to Pai many times. Newbies to Chiang Mai often arrive with a side trip to Pai on their bucket list, and when I ask them why they usually say "because I heard it's cool". No really, why do you want to go to Pai so urgently? Again, they usually don't know, they just "heard it was cool". Thing is, there isn't very much "to do" in Pai, it's more like an escape from the beaten path which ironically puts it on the beaten path. All these young hippie types take the next minivan up and over the hills only to arrive and find the place full of the same people, but at least it's a badge of distinction to say you've been there, something to blog about or add to the campfire discussion circle when you get to the FMP down south. Then some of them think it's paradise I can do whatever I want and stay forever, but often forget you still need money and you still have visa restrictions which mean you have to leave every month or two. Pai is definitely in danger of jumping the shark though, with all the pretentious "how cool am I?" mentality and social media "influencers" blocking the way with their narcissistic phone held high telling the world of their awesome discovery. It just doesn't feel real anymore.

I have been to Pai multiple times in the last 15 years. At times I love it and at times I hate it. Overrun by tourists and the night market is full of everything except Thai food. Burritos, burgers etc… there are much better places in SE Asia or Notthern Thailand for a relaxed life surrounded by beautiful nature

Funny you should say that. Pai is one of the few places you can have a good CAMPFIRE / Firepit discussion. And you'll probably get some great music too. Don't get that vibe anywhere else in Thailand.

There's no hood in PH, only punks. those are coward bums wanna be gangster and still living with their parents. He can't even explain his thoughts what a shame...Go to a maximum prison if you want to meet the real thing. They don't do crimes, criminals do. It gets Cringy when they all meet.

Its sad to see my own people especially lil kids throwing up gang signs which they dont even know what they're throwing up nor what the meaning of the signs they're copying on TV or music vids smh all these so called gangster rappers are nothing but bad influence on the youth.

I remember the first time I saw that Ladyboy fight, I was very confused because from the seats it looked like a lady. Also, some of the Ladyboys in Thailand take birth control, which I think might lower there testosterone or play a role somehow in their hormones. I could not find much info on it on Google though.

In case you're planning to do a visa run in Thailand: Did you know that the organisations offering visa run services, in fact only offer a ride to the nearest border crossing and back to the point where they picked you up? Basically, it's a very expensive (and often very boring) bus ride. So consider renting a car or motorbike and making the trip yourself. It's cheaper and more fun.
