Omg the last house on needless street is definitely one of the top thrillers I’ve ever read or is it horror lol. What a wonderfully written book with twists until the very end. I read it last summerween and I still think about it!

Wow these Recommendations were amazing! Thank you so much! Not so perfect strangers amazing! Their vicious games was a pleasant surprise! Killers of a certain age was wonderful! And now I’m getting ready to read sign here. You have great tastes in thrillers👏 I’ve recently enjoyed you’re not supposed to die here and the sundown motel.

I gave up on Goodreads eventually because I was using both Goodreads and StoryGraph and I just CANNOT DEAL with the UI and the design that looks like it hasn’t been updated since 2006. Basically every issue you’ve mentioned, StoryGraph does better, but you obviously already know that 😆 I do, however, have one single gripe about StoryGraph: I can’t comment on my friends’s reads and say “wow! I like that book!” or “good luck, I really struggled with that one.”

Honestly, this year I started moving my book tracking to an online journal. I'm not even keeping track on my challenge. I feel that it's still a good tool, but honestly I don't use it much anymore

I used to spend 15 hours a week being a Goodreads librarian, correcting the database. The search is garbage, like total utter wankery it's so bad. Then they launched the new page, it's impossible to see what needs updating at a glance and I just stopped.

"you know when you just hold up a book that you love and are just so happy that it exists and are grateful you were able to read it?" that's such a lovely sentiment! and i think there's something so wonderfully comforting about hearing it in a video about thrillers-fear is our desire to feel safe, after all🧸💕 also the tragic/horrific mashup coming out as "terrific" is exactly the kind of thing my brain would do, too! 🧠✨ p.s. my favorite editing detail was was the whimsy of the car door closing sound, but the "dropping like flies" also totally spiked my heart rate! 🤌🏻

Grimm's Puppets by Tom Prater is still one of my go-to recommendations. A thriller that shocked me, despite the end feeling like a bit of a cop-out was The Red House by Roz Watkins - I read it in one sitting because it was an easy read, and gave it 4 stars thinking I enjoyed it but won't think about it again... and I'm still thinking about it months later because of how much the end infuriated and shocked me. 😅😂 I know that doesn't like a good recommendation but it's the only way I can describe it.

I might have to purchase on kindle

I’ve tried both Goodreads and Storygraph for the social aspect and to uplift my favorite books but I’d rather use Instagram or KZfaq so I’m sure in the minority. And Amazon’s refusal to make changes because they know they have a monopoly is so scummy (love the graphic btw 😂). I keep track of my reading on Google Sheets so I don’t need an extra app for that.

I hate "My books" page with burning passion, the same passion I hate the fact that the "date read" doesn't add automatically with. I find it ridiculously hard to find a book I just marked as "read" and add the date. I also hate the fact that filtering book editions is so poor, with only one criterium: format (audiobook vs. Ebook vs. paper, I believe). How about LANGUAGE? Like, I'm Polish and I read the majority of my books in that language and finding the correct edition, especially of popular books with multiple editions in mamy languages, is a nightmare. I really don't like goodreads, don't even know why I'm still using it 😅

Did you listen to the audiobook for Midnight Is The Darkest Hour?? The narrator was AMAZING with her southern belle accent 🎧 I got to meet Ashley Winstead & Lucy Foley while I was in Houston this summer. I gave the book 5 stars(I'm pretty sure the narrator was a big reason) 🤷🏻‍♂

the brownies were so fun and the music was perfect! 👻💖 also that neckline on the piece from artizia on you literally made my chest feel tight! 🫢✨ and the sweats actually looked so comfy, and then the 'hones-tea' totally got me! i believe it that you like summerween more than halloween because the vibes were so cozy and nice, and really i appreciate how much energy you put into connecting with the feelings that make you feel you! 🦋🫶🏻✨ on a more serious note, banning books is not actually about protecting the well-being of individual readers, of course, so the banners wouldn't be worried or sympathetic if a person is traumatized by reading a thriller, for example. from my understanding, the primary interest is in banning depictions of personal emotional exploration (i believe over 90% of books that are banned talk about sexuality) which might threaten a person's attachment and commitment to current community norms, thereby negatively effecting the people invested those norms. that's why anything with "unnatural" romance can get banned, like lgbtq stuff or sarah j mass and her fae romances, because those stories can offer spaces for a person to re-interpret their emotions inside their own heads and outside the bounds, and without the say, of their prescriptive, rigid, and possessive community! i think that mindset stops stops members of a community from not only discussing the well-being of themselves as individuals, but also the well-being of the community as a whole, which i feel you represented well in that quote you shared from 'midnight is the darkest hour' when that guy was trying to intimidate ruth-so yeah, creepy and spooky and i guess perfect for summerween, and i'm so glad you talked about it! 🩷🕷️🍉✨ p.s. i think the reading journal pages came out gorgeously! 🌙✨

What exactly is Summerween? Is it books taken place in the summer or is it mostly horror books that are highly recommended?
@sara_elizabeth
@sara_elizabeth 28 күн бұрын
Summerween is basically an annual week-long readathon in July where you try to read books that align with that year's prompts. The prompts tend to be Halloween-inspired, hence Summer-ween 🎃
