Can you name some of your influences? Where do you come up with material,? This technique? Super interesting. Ive been a guitar player almost 30 years and have never seen or heard anything like this. And ive never seen a 9 string tele. I am also curious of your tuning on that beast.

he's so right about instruments, guitar was one of the first things i got kinda good at where i feel like i really earned my skill and that just in general still gives me a lot of confidence and stuff, but it's also that there's literally a direct enjoyment of the act itself which i only see because ive put in the hours looking for it. i feel the same way about music theory in general, like i get so much directly out of applying my theory knowledge and then when you talk to normies about what youve been doing it's like youre speaking in tongues and it kinda drives home like wow ive come a long way y'know?
@cyruspireh
@cyruspireh 21 сағат бұрын
Well said, my friend!! I really agree with how you put it : "that there's literally a direct enjoyment of the act itself which i only see because ive put in the hours looking for it." Like the more time I put in, the more I can see and the deeper or further out it pulls me. I had an experience at a performance late last year where I was watching these two amazing performers. One was a saxophonist I never thought I would get to see in person. The way they played, it was so clear to me that it was just an extension of their thinking and being. And I had a thought about how, while I was completely over the moon, it was intensely uncool. Like saying, I am going to dedicate myself intensely, openly, and completely to this thing is, in current parlance, cringe. But the instrument delivers in such a way that it doesn't matter and learning to love music openly is the same as learning to be a complete self out in the world. I spend a lot of time talking to normies trying to get them to drag out the band instrument they haven't played since highschool so they can get on this ride, too! Thank you for sharing your thoughts, thank you for listening, and sending you many positive vibes!!

Yes, my friend!! There is a story there! Years ago this section did not exist in the song. I was performing at John Doe Jr. records in Greenfield, MA, usa. Instead of the Future Lute, I was playing Thank You, Guitar on the 9 String Esquire. Thing is, to get the necessary number of frets I capo at the 11th fret and that changes the relationship of the dots on the fretboard, so whenI was trying to go back to the 1, I landed one fret too high. Since the show must go on, I turned it into something and it has been part of the song since. When I finally resolved the chord in that performances, Danny Monster Cruz (Rest in Power, Danny! ) let out a sigh of relief and it is how I remember him each time I play it. Listening back, the piece is so different! But there is video : kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o5iTY85zqcraZ3U.htmlfeature=shared&t=835 Thank you for listening, my friend!!!!

Do you ever get sick of playing these couple songs? I kinda get the big picture, but to me it just seems a kind of strange practice. I see it from the perspective of meditation, as well as like a perfect run,be it a racetrack,obstacle course or video game playthrough. Just seems stramge to someone as myself who mostly just picks up the guitar to try to discover something new after 20 years. Im curious "what your going for" or what your trying to "achieve" as ive never heard it straight from the horses mouth so to speak,or seen comments mentioning this type of thing, as it seems alot of comment kinda see this a meme and they lean into that, but being someone whos always thinking much broader and bigger picture, i cant watch another one of these without asking and trying to find some kind of answer. I feel like a potential video where you talk about your channel,your playing, the "purpose" and how others can see their own playing/instrument in a different way and how to implement it themselves, could be quite a huge hit on here as most of youtube guitar is about gear,modding,covers etc. And there really isnt a "meditative guitar" niche..at least thats been 'discovered' or talked about yet.im just curious on your thought of the whole thing. We all do repetitive things,but its usually wuite different from this

Excellent question, my friend!! This is like THE question! XD When I was in grad school, some of my piano performance colleagues' practice routines made a real impression on me. In particular there was one student who began their practice by playing through the entirety of book 1 of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier every day before moving on to whatever else they were going to work on in that session. I was struck at first by the amount of time this would take and then I was left with the question of what does it really mean to know a piece of music? That quickly led me to think about how many pieces would it be possible to know in a career or a lifetime. It is a finite number there is just only so much time. This pianist talked about having to actively make the choice to forgo studying certain works or certain styles because they would not be able to get a handle on it in addition to the things they have decided to take on in their career if that makes sense. Anyway, when I first started playing these 2 pieces 6-9 years ago it was to learn them and the techniques needed to play them. Then it became about trying to get a nice recording, which I am still trying to do for Thank You, Guitar. But now, it's more like what my colleague was doing with the Bach, except instead of someone else's music I've been able to develop a relationship with a couple of pieces of music that I've written. If I think about it like human relationships, would I really want to go more than a few days without talking to my best friend? I play through them to check in, to see how they're doing, to enter a state of practice, to maintain my technique, and then I move on to playing other things that I have in the Explore videos. I hope this helps answer your question. I like very much the suggestion to put this into a video to help describe the purpose of the channel. I have a few talking videos on my to do list! Thank you for listening and sending you many positive vibes!!
