It is a geared locomotive one of three types. The three types are Shay. Climax and Heisler. the one in the video is a Shay type locomotive.

The locomotive is a Shay locomotive. One of three types of geared locomotives. the three being Shay heisler and climax All three were primarily used on logging railroads to bring timber off the mountains. Shay’s are built for power and not speed the fastest Shay was clocked at 18 mph that Shay is currently under restoration at the north Carolina transportation museum.

190 had a small problem arise when the locomotive crew got her ready for the day. The problem wasn’t so bad that she couldn’t run but the shop crew decided to to firer up 12 to address the problem with 190
