One of the sturdiest looking pluckers I've ever seen. If you ever have issues with belt tension any common belt tensioner like for a vehicle should do the job.

Just picked up a free 2 horse trailer on marketplace. Tires were even good enough to get it home. It has some rust holes in roof. Wondering what easiest method would be to seal it up vs replacing metal. I don't actually need it for horses so might flip or trade for enclosed trailer

Removing all the wind-board fences one by one just to neaten things up. I think that it's starting to look way better but still have a lot to do to make it a nice farm. Lots of hard work ... Why am I doing this? Getting to old for all this hard work, but it makes the BOSS happy.

I was looking for a paint strainer before I did it but was not able to get one at the store and thought to myself, I'm just going to give it a go. After a while I did thin the paint somewhat and it worked out great in the end.

So many things wrong here, turn motor over so belt is on bottom, put motor on a hinged mount so you can put a tension bolt on it to tighten belt as being that loose it’ll slip the first time it has a load, use drum without all the holes, a discharge for feathers and water opposite of motor, none of these would increase cost as the parts are already there.

Wow, awesome feedback, thank you!!. It worked really well as it is; but now that you said all these things it makes perfect sense. Where were you when I was building it ?. If I have time this summer I will come back and try and make it better. Thanks again.

Did it work? Make video of it plucking, don’t leave us hanging, very interesting build.
@homesteadfarmer
@homesteadfarmer Жыл бұрын
Yes it worked like a charm. Sorry for not showing the actual plucking, did not want to offend anyone (easy to offend these days, but they still eat them tasty chickens...) It worked almost too good, plucking a chicken in 30-40 seconds, even the small hairs/feathers came off. I did have one or two hick-ups but that's on me, I let the water get to hot and then it pulled some of the skin off. Also with the bottom open all the feathers were collected in a drum-lid and it was not problem cleaning it after. So all in all a nice build that actually work, so impressed also with my pig feeder working like magic. Stay tuned this spring I'm finishing my green/hot house for planting tomatoes.

@homesteadfarmer Жыл бұрын
Yes, actually I was thinking to do sand-blasting, but the cost to set it up just for one trailer was to much. Wish I had one. Actually if I had a sandblaster I would do ALL my other equipment. The stuff I use is from the 40's, still work but a pain in the rear end. LOL I have a bottom plow from the 20's that I still use, I saw the same one I use in a Museum and was thinking to strip some spare-parts for mine.

Love the pig feeder! Do you have any dimensions?
@homesteadfarmer
@homesteadfarmer Жыл бұрын
I don't. Just build it one the fly. But this summer I need another, just because it worked so good, and I'm getting 4 pigs next year. I will make another video and try and give some dimensions. Only one thing did not work so good. Next build I have to make sure where the drum sits it's water-tight. I did get some water in when it rained and had to clean it out. Also I'm going to build a cement pad to put the feeder on. Once it gets empty they tend to push it around. Stay tuned for an updated video on that, for now it's just snow and -40C, lucky me.

@homesteadfarmer
@homesteadfarmer Жыл бұрын
Yes, actually it worked out really good. I fill it up and it's good for four weeks or so with two pigs. The only thing I would do differently is to ensure you insulate the bottom. If and moisture gets in it clogs up the feed. So far I only happened once or twice but your don't want it to happen ever. Also when the feeder gets empty the pig will start pushing it around, will have to secure it in some way. Apart from that I really like this feeder. I also have to work on their water, I need a drum with a drain at the bottom to clean it. Next summer I will work on it. For now it's back to shovelling snow.

Thanks. Working with the pucker after the build also worked out good. I had not issues at all and it plucked really good. Some of the chickens got their skin ripped off, but that's not the pucker its the heat of the water when scalding. I will maybe work on a boiler next year.
