Thanks, it was mainly a very nice trip down Memory Lane and I could still feel those cobbles as your camera shook. The sections that I wasn't familiar with looked great and it all looked so very civilised.

Thanks for posting this, it was a great mixture of fond memories and hopefully future discoveries. I can't believe how far you got before stopping for lunch and you still finished by 13:00 ... that massive spag bol must have been packed with energy. I was surprised how much more there was after Oostende, I'd love to do that one day. The music was great, especially the Sandstorm section and you can't beat a good Flemish banger.

Thanks, I always aim to incorporate music specific to a area, or that is in some way memorable to my time there. Sometimes the tracks might be in-jokes relating to specific circumstances. Glad to hear you like the videos. I've got quite a lot more Midlands-based ones up as I do like it up there.

It was a great ride to do. Well worth the effort of travelling up there. Tranquil flat disused railway lines, amazing tunnels and probably one of the best stretches of canals I've ever ridden. Topped off with the Foxton Locks Inn - such a superb location. On the way back, we stopped again at another pub called the Brampton Halt, just behind Pitsford & Brampton Station which was also really good.

Even though I live 70 miles away Foxton locks are one of my favourite places in the UK to visit. I agree the Inn there is really good.

I live in Kent, so getting there is a bit of a mission - but well worth it. I stumbled across the locks by accident on a trip from Leicester to Northampton via canal last year. I've got a video up showing that ride too.

It's an easy enough route to follow - I just rode alongside the canal through Solihull, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Braunston, Stoke Bruerne, Milton Keynes, Berkhampsted and onwards to London. There's a couple of tunnels to cross over at Braunston and Blisworth but the routes over the top are pretty obvious. Then, at London (Bull's Bridge), there's a couple of options depending on whether you go on to Brentford or Paddington. If you just Google 'Grand Union Canal Route', there'll be plenty of entries presented to show you the way.
@dasdasdatics420Ай бұрын
The IWA used to do a walking route from Gas st, Brum to Regents canal London including overnight stays such as B&Bs and campsites. I think I may still have it from 25 years ago. The EEC helped finance the upgrading of the towpath for bicycles but it seems they've probably been neglected over time again. At least it's mainly downhill to sea level I think. I never got around to doing it unfortunately because I went sea sailing instead ending up as crew on tall ships after a heart bypass surgery. Too old now.

Thanks for your kind comment. I've got Edinburgh to Glasgow firmly on my to-do list. You should find the Falkirk Wheel quite fascinating. I'd love to hear how you get on. I'll see if I can figure out a way to include maps/links or whatever. Meanwhile, if you can access the "Open Canal Map" App, that will give you a great insight into the UK canal network. I've got lots more Canal rides on my channel too - a lot of which are in the Midlands region. Safe travels....

That's a great video, and it looks a lovely ride complete with tunnel and ferry. I learned a lot about the area and its geography and the footage promotes how interesting and peaceful it is. As ever the soundtrack hit the spot and I now know Dire Straits weren't singing about a City in Spain.
@duveleffe17012 ай бұрын
It was great to get back up to my homeland and I hope to be back soon. Going through that tunnel was a big tick on my to-do list. When I'm putting these videos together, I often struggle to find music that isn't just repeating the same old stuff - but there was so much material that fitted this ride perfectly, it was an easy one to do. Most of the tracks are meaningful or sentimental to me in one way or another. The Spanish City was a huge part of my childhood.

Hello, i just wanted to say thanks for your videos. I suffer a lot from anxiety and have real issues making myself get out and about on bicycle trips. Watching your videos are a real source of encouragement. I am planning a Dunkirk to Netherlands trip once the weather allows. Also great music choices.
@duveleffe17013 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching, and thanks for your kind words. I’m often riddled with anxiety before a lot of my trips, so I always take every precaution available to me - I always make sure my bikes are professionally serviced, have good quality components and plan my routes as much as possible to stay close to railway lines so that, if there’s ever a problem, there’s always a route back to ‘civilisation’ should the worst happen. I have the most puncture-resistant tyres that are available and carry spare inner tubes/nuts/bolts/cable ties/locks/bike frame number etc. etc. and also tools to fix the most common problems. I’ve ridden from the French ports to Amsterdam three times, and have done countless other trips in France/Belgium and the Netherlands. They’re so much more geared up for the needs of cyclists over there, you’ll never be far away from help if you need it. If I can ever be of any help, just pop me a comment - I always reply. Take care and enjoy your cycling while you can.

Thanks - it was a really enjoyable and varied ride. The section after the turn onto the Derwent was new to me and a really pleasant experience. The Waskerley Way goes quite a bit further beyond Consett, so getting right to the end of it is definitely on my list the next time I'm up there. I think the track you're referring to is 'Dancevision' by the Human League. I don't recall it being used as a TV theme, but it certainly sounds like the sort of thing that should have been. My next video will show the Tyne heading in the other direction - Out towards Wallsend and through the recently refurbished Tyne Cycle Tunnel before crossing back on the Shields Ferry and heading back up the coast into Northumberland.

Can Aylesbury to Birmingham be done
@duveleffe17013 ай бұрын
Towpaths all the way - there's a couple of lumpy bits at Blisworth and Braunston where climbing up and over tunnels is needed, but they're not too much of an issue. There's a few rough sections when you're in remote areas - particularly in between Blisworth and Leamington Spa, which can be challenging, but passable, so don't let that put you off. It's a fantastic experience.

Thanks for watching. I'm sure you'll have a fantastic adventure. Yes, the section you mention is probably the most challenging. It's quite remote and therefore doesn't get much activity on it from other towpath users. A bit more insight in the section from Warwick to Braunston can be seen in this other video from 32.00 to 42.45 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/esp7rZmI0d_dlo0.htmlsi=OdRYTudaHEZDJslz The roughest part, I'd say, is in between Napton Junction and Braunston. I grew up in Bermondsey (you cycled through there during one of your "blank" edits between Tower Biridge and the tunnel along Jamaica Road - The Tube station was on your right). In the 1960's, my late father used to take us for a Sunday afternoon stroll into the tunnel - not usually much further than the first ventilation shaft. In those days, you could walk up the spiral staircase there and exit onto Brunel Road. Now, it's fenced off. The last time I went through that tunnel, I got a ticket - didn't realise the hire van I was driving had a gross weight of just over 2 tonnes gross weight. Guess that's what comes of assuming the limit was as when I used it years ago! I live in Crystal Palace now. Hope to get back onto my electric-assist bike soon - recently had hernia surgery.
@duveleffe17016 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. That's interesting to hear. It's a shame a lot of these old entrances and exits are closed off now. There must be so much of London hidden and unaccessible these days... Hope you recover from your surgery soon and get back out on your bike.

I have to say this is my earliest memory of street cred. I never owned one but friends had them so i did get to ride them. I found them far too easy to flip especially if you were carring a passenger. They were also terrible on the road because the handlebars were so wide they sometimes got clipped by passing traffic. Akso the amount of times these lads caught their nuts on the gearshift was just crazy. They weren't a fast bike and were terrible for a long run. We once did a 30 mile trip and there was six of us and 2 of the riders had choppers but after only about 10 miles the chopper riders complained about back ache and arms and shoulders all aching. They never came out with us again because of this yes they looked cool but not really practical in my opinion. Nice to see them, very nostalgic but thats all. Some people who bought these were wanna be motorcylists and for the price these are now is the same price as a decent vintage motorcycle which is what i would put my money into and get so much more actual pleasure from. But thats just my opinion, enjoy yourselves its a very select niech but it all started the Street cred revolution.
