I loved the idea of the diy tub for the frame, but maybe as kids inflatable pool would work better. Great video, thanks! I was considering dipping a frame too and it's good to see how it behaves.
@ForslundFunFactory11 күн бұрын
You are welcome! The problem with the inflatable pool is there is so much area. It seemed to me I just used the wrong curtain so if I would ever do it again I’d make sure it’s a legit non breathable curtain next time. Kinda putzy, but better than buying 10 gallons of the evaporust. Good luck when ya do it!

Bikes like that might be a tad outdated by todays standards but they were so well built that, unless they were truly neglected, they often don't take much work to make work again. As far as what to do with it, I say since it's in your size you should take it to another level and rock it for a while. I think you should do budget drop bar conversion. I don't think 3X8 brifters aren't too expensive and should have the same pull rates for the derailleurs. The brakes might be a different story, but I do have a bike with 9 speed Sora and V-brakes and with the right adjustment they do work. I would put a rigid fork on it and run the biggest tires it will hold (2.4ish). Budget vintage drop bar monster! Might even be algorithm friendly?!

@@ForslundFunFactory agreed. I find the Spring lock works better than the regular clutch derailleurs. I only engage it when I am mountain biking on blue or black trails. Since I always carry a multi tool, not a problem, but I agree, maybe a knob you can twist with your hand would be better.

I bought mine last year and did the following upgrades to it: * Shimano mt200 hydraulic brakes * AdventX drive-train * 32T Narrow-wide chain ring * Chester RaceFace Pedals * Specialized FastTrak tires I'm super happy with it, and I'm really looking forward to getting it out again now that the weather's warming up. The upgrades they made to from last year are great as well, especially as a beginner bike (the LTWoo drive-train on last year's model wasn't the greatest).

@@ForslundFunFactory ignore the negative comments. Nothing wrong with that bike and nothing wrong with keeping a vintage bike on the road. My very first road bike was a Raleigh Technium and it’s the bike that started my love for cycling. I’ve had many bikes since then and I currently have 8 bikes in my garage today. That same Raleigh is there among the others. I often still ride it and it is the one that means the most to me.

It's a little late since it has already been returned to the customer, but these aluminum bonded techniums do have a history of separating at the lugs. Of course, this is rare, but as time goes on and bikes get to be 40 years old or more...There's a million of nice old bikes manufactured via the tried and true method of brazed lugs and thus no reason to ride a bike that is known to have issues. I just know that I'd never buy one of these to ride seriously. Most I'd do is ride it casually on level bike paths, never down big hills and definitely never solo out on quiet roads. Hard to say what you should tell your customer. He very well could be fine for another 40 years on this bike. Or not.
@ForslundFunFactory3 ай бұрын
Hey there @Primifluous, I looked over the frame while cleaning it and didn’t see anything that made me feel it wasn’t safe. He didn’t seem like he would be putting it through hard intensive efforts as he said he would be using it for light commuting. It looked very lightly ridden in its past, which may or may not make a difference! Good eye!
@racerx84107123 ай бұрын
Wise choice on the 28s and kudos to the bike itself for being able to fit them. Obviously, one can ride an old roadie the way old roadies did on 23's and 25's but in my opinion that makes for a rough ride not too mention an anxious one being on watch for ruts and other potentially accident inducing road conditions. Another big improvement is the use of a quill to threadless stem adapter and a stem that gets the bars up to a position where the brakes are more accessible.
@ForslundFunFactory3 ай бұрын
@racer8410712 Thanks! I knew the owner would be using it for commuting and just riding. The 28s fit wonderfully with exception of the front reflector mount. Keep an eye out for the new video coming out soon!

Hey there! For a longer ride I would use my b17. I’m a larger fellow and can’t go too narrow. It sounds like you are trying to be aero, which is great for fast riding, but for 5-6-7 hours of riding you should be trying to be more comfortable too. Seat should be level with the ground, and you can raise your bars to alleviate some of those issues. Just don’t go too far up or too far down!
