Makes you a better Potter? Not sure of that, maybe makes you a Potter who hasn’t learned how-to center properly. In the demo the top of the lump of clay was never centered which made the rim a bit wobbly. The opening finger could be a good thing for getting the depth right which is sometimes tricky on big pots and nice flat bottom is nice but no I don't think it makes you a better potter

@@marcsstudio well I can relate big time if that's where you're at I don't know I just skimmed by this video. I have paraneoplastic syndrome and basically my immune system has attacked my central nervous system leaving me in excruciating amount of pain. So I guess if I was worse than I am now perhaps that does make sense. Although I tend not to use my legs at all for centering I stay put because I have a lot of upper body weight where I don't have to really get up to lean into it. I just started throwing again after 45 years and I'm really liking porcelain which is very very soft and easy to Center. People 10 to say it's difficult to work with I think it's that much easier to work with I don't know maybe it's just me. But I guess this would be a wonderful helper tool for people lower handicap. I was not trying to be judgmental at all like I said with all due respect I just I have such a hard time with space around my wheel. I need to sit in a different dimension where I can have ten times the objects close at hand LOL. The plunging tool to me would not help with a handicap however. Digging in seems to be the buff the easiest thing that you could do but I still take my head off to whoever invented that pretty ingenious. My biggest problem is flipping my hand upside down to draw the clay off because of the pain in my arms. I'm not really trying to brag or nothing but wanted to relearn throwing so bad over my entire life then it's all coming very easy to me no I've watched a handful of videos from an Asian gentleman and I can't remember his name but he throws what looks to be porcelain exclusively and I've taken every tip if he's given and it's just been spot on profession for me. I'm throwing pots and vases exactly like this gentleman now after 3 weeks. Everybody around me thinks I'm some kind of savant LOL. It's just a guess that I loved it so much as a child in high school or actually know it was Junior High Middle School the last time I threw that I've always kept it in my head and held on to those Pathways I guess I know that sounds kind of silly but I can't explain it I don't know what the hell's wrong with me I didn't mean to complain about this I've just been so happy to get back to it I guess that my mind rejected the artificiality ugly helper tool which is absolutely ridiculous now that I think of it. I apologize

At a glance many people form an opinion about this tool..I understand ,it’s not a conventional way to throw pots. This tool is for helping people who have physical challenges that make throwing pottery painful or not possible at all!! It has saved careers,empowers people with disabilities and also enabled people to make pottery far bigger than they can do the conventional way... that is what this tool is ALL ABOUT!!! I don’t think this takes away from the art. There is so much more to it than centering. If you can’t center for what ever reason this just helps you get to the next step
