Thanks for sharing. I served EDSAL Class Destroyer Escort USS Brister DER 327 1964-1965. Patrols included the Trust Territories of the Pacific, Barrier Patrols on the DEW line between Midway Island and Adak, AK. then a voyage to Sydney Australia and Pago Pago American Samoa. At the end of this voyage we received orders to deploy to South Vietnam.

I was lucky enough to serve on a 378 right out of bootcamp "USCGC Morganthau" 1991-1993. Sad to hear she was decommissioned many years ago but I guess they can't last forever huh and have to make room for a bigger and better model.

Former USCG ET here... isn't about time Someone made a Memorial Patch for the Hamilton? It's not official... but While I was in GOV ISLAND... I designed a First District Patch. No one wanted it. It was 1*... Or one ass to risk... Low and behold years later... I found a patch of it.😂

Three words: Minimum Manning Concept. Add chicks to the mix and life starts to get miserable fast. In the words of an old Executive Officer: "'270s are the last stop for a lot of people in the Coast Guard".

Stood boiler watches & maintained diesels on CG 311's during '60's , these cutters were reliable & well designed - engines & machinery on today's fast response cutters looks a little too cramped for my taste . Hope they are not an engineer's [ MK's ] nightmare .

I think you missed my ship, USS Brister, DER-327, which appears in a photo at about 7:29 moored inboard of DER-388, probably at Pearl Harbor. I was aboard from May 1965 to November 1967, for three WESTPAC. deployments. A similar history to many f the other DER s who were decommissioned/ sold or scrapped by about 1970.

Some of these 378' ft cutters were once intalled with harpoon missiles on the 90s, and in fact, one of them successfully fired one during sea trials. Anyway, this capability was soon scrapped.
