This mall is located in one of the wealthiest areas of town.
@TiltedTripodMedia7 күн бұрын
@@channelpink4376 yeah but that still doesn’t explain why all the luxury stores are there. We are in a recession and the beginning of a depression. I asked my grandparents many times before about the famous 30s depression they lived through and learned that even wealthy weren’t immune. Yes it took longer to affect them but you have to remember many wealthy people live a higher standard of life. While the average persons monthly expenses might be around 4k a month a wealthy person has 10k+ a month expenses. Fancier house bigger taxes luxury cars. Now this isn’t all wealthy people because some do live well below their means. Most wealthy people live a lifestyle that doesn’t afford a lot of headroom. What I’m getting at is that in a depression inflation, bank collapses and the like don’t choose wealthy vs poor we will all suffer. The other question is how many ultra rich can there be in a small city like Nashville to support these stores? It’s not like Chicago or NYC where the wealthy population is huge. Anyway maybe I filmed this mall just before its collapse 🤷🏼♂️
@channelpink43767 күн бұрын
@@TiltedTripodMedia the stores were not put there during a financial crisis. They have been there during some of the best economic times, in one of the richest parts of Nashville. That area of town has been attractive to a certain demographic for a while now, because higher end stores are placed there. The green hills area thrived in spite of the pandemic, sure. But so has Nashville in general. First of all, I’m not even saying that the rich are perfectly insulated from any financial crisis, but they’re also not the ones struggling right now. It just makes sense to me why that mall is doing fine lol, for now at least. I know Covid happened and the mall thrived in spite of that, but I think Nashville as a whole has blown UP more than it has collapsed in any way since the pandemic. People fleeing from California and New York to save money on housing probably because for the housing they’re paying millions for back in their home state, they can sell and buy an equal sized home for $500k while still earning a high salary lol. I kind of feel like your comment is actually answering your own question. That area is still pretty stable…for now. A financial crisis will affect the well off people of that area way after it’s affected everyone else of lower income in the area. The problem is I don’t even think Nashville is being hit as hard as other areas…yet. Even if you aren’t rich. Opry Mills is also doing okay considering it’s definitely not what I think of as high end like the green hills area. I think other metros will have to tank first and Nashville will follow suit. But right now Nashville is where the wealthy are flocking to save money (it’s also funny to listen to them come here and then complain that there’s not much to do) maybe that’s why they’re always at the mall spending all their money lol

Some historical clarification regarding 3:49 commentary. On the national scene, the sole "groundbreaking" characteristic surrounding Northland is that it held the crown for the largest suburban shopping center for a brief period in the late 50's/early 60s (as such, it was featured as a "glimpse into the future" in LIFE magazine). Neither Northland nor Eastland, qualifies as the "first enclosed mall". They were both built as open-air and not enclosed until well into the 70s--almost 20 years after they opened, whereas Southdale in Edina, MN opened as enclosed in 1956. All 3 were designed by Victor Gruen. As for the "first open-air" suburban shopping center, Northland & Eastland don't qualify for this title either. There were a number of others that opened before it: Lakewood Center (Lakewood, CA), Northgate Center (Seattle, WA), and Stonestown Center (San Francisco, CA), and there were more.
