After a few days with my new Fire TV, I wanted to view some 4k programming (Prime Video is not consistent in delivering 4K programming to the new TV !) So, I thought I could see 4k on YT and I knew I could count on you for a little 4k. Viewing this again ... I noticed you included my name in the end credits ... somehow I didn't see this the first 3 times I viewed it. Anyway ... thanks Denny. SJ

@@SmilinJackAccordion hey Jack! Hope your summer has been good so far and you’re staying cool out there in the AZ sun! Yeah, have to give credit where credit is due, you definitely helped shape the melody with your input :) and we very much loved the video message you sent us to watch the day after the wedding. We were going through the property cleaning up and took a break to watch it and it brought us to tears. Very memorable moment for us. I hope you’ve been doing well man, it’s been a busy summer for us with work and projects but I’m hoping to get back into S&T mode soon. Would love to catch up for a chat later in the week if you’re around ♥️

Is there a way to route the bass and melody sides seperately?
@SqueezeandThanks
@SqueezeandThanks 15 күн бұрын
@@robertsteinberger hey Robert! Yes, this can be done with one of their systems that has the “mono” / “stereo” switch that is located on the chip board. I forget what systems have this but you can definitely find that info on their website or on a shops website such as Petosa or liberty. You will need a special Y cable that takes the one 1/4” out and splits it into two separate 1/4” cables. This could be particularly good for isolation when recording or using pedals with certain effects on one vs the other. There will always be some small level of bleed but it’s a solid option to have. I believe I have the 5001 in my new Petosa and that has it but definitely look for the little switch. You’ll have to pop off the grill every time you switch between the two but that’s the extent of heavy lifting once it’s installed

quick question I recognize that little accordion does it say where it was made?
@BradMaestas
@BradMaestas 28 күн бұрын
You mentioned reliability then talked about feedback. I would say those two things are quite separate. Harmonik's build quality is high so the reliability is high, no doubt. The feedback characteristics depend so much on the pattern of the mic capsule, the frequency response of your speakers, where the mics end up being installed inside your instrument, and what surfaces can reflect sound into the mics and generate feedback. As an audio engineer, I like Harmonik products, a lot, for live sound. They would not be my first choice for recording, where you can put any mic in any position on the outside of the instrument and capture things like the instrument in the room and the keys being pressed. Mics up close will have a great signal/noise ratio and give more volume before feedback but it's not a very natural sound. For recording, some distance is required to capture the true acoustic sound of the instrument. That said, I have this system in my 1960 Petosa piano accordion and it's incredible through a PA. I will be upgrading my chromatic accordion to this system soon as well!

Hey Brad! I suppose you’re right in that regard. For recording sake, I too haven’t found the pickup to be as good as external mics. I have been using a pencil condenser on the keys and a large diaphragm condenser on the bass. I’m sure there are a few pages I could take from your book given your audio engineering background… I don’t have a specific rhyme or reason for how I go about setting them up, just what seems right… pencil condenser maybe a foot and a half away, and the large diaphragm condenser about the same, maybe two feet… both spaced and aiming in a neutral location. Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks Edgar! I got it from an accordion shop that was closing down so I’m not sure where you could find one, it’s a touch bigger than most of those accordion Christmas ornaments that are a little more common to find. I would look on eBay and type in miniature accordion. I took a big rubber band and fixed it to the top and put it around his neck for a quick photo opportunity :)

The reason there are only three notes on the chord buttons is to keep the air usage by the bellows consistent, otherwise if chords have different numbers of notes to them, they would use different amounts of air so the chords would feel easier/harder to play with the bellows.

@@SqueezeandThanks Thanks (and squeeze)! I would be interested depending on price. From what I'm seeing poking around online accordions cost a lot more than I thought. I live about 6 hours away, though I am hoping to go to Buffalo someday for Dyngus Day. I love polka music, I watch Mollie B on tv every week and listen to polka radio occasionally too. I have one of those little toy accordions you mentioned, but it's the button version. I saw online the newer piano version looks slightly better. I hope someday to learn how to play a real one. Do you have how-to books or know where to find them? I didn't see them on your website. I have no piano experience, and don't know how to read music. So basically I would be a complete beginner. Thanks for your help and quick reply!

One more question, do you play polka shows from time to time? I didn't see it mentioned on your website. I saw in your video that you hurt your shoulder a few years back. I am glad you are doing better and enjoying making music again! I haven't found much for polka entertainment where I live. I love seeing Jimmy Sturr several times a year, plus I bounce to Maifest and Oktoberfests near me. I still wish I could discover more. Searching for accordions online I discovered Liberty Bellows Accordion Shop. I would love to see that store someday. It would be about 3 hour trip for me. Maybe I could even plan a trip around a polka show. (I think Pennsylvania gets some polka love? They have a song named after them after all...)
