I might be wrong, but ive heard on some forums that one original challenger is still alive (sort of) it’s completely gutted with nothing but a body.

This is my favorite movie of all time! In the early 90s, I used to go out to Tucson, to cruise around, looking for the locations. In 2009, i had the opportunity to do a scene with David Sherrill (Skank) in In/Significant others. I hollered "Skank!" at him from across the floor, and everyone went silent, thinking I had just insulted their star, LOL. You can imagine how relieved they all were, when he hollered "Yeah! Man, I haven't heard that one in a LONG time!" back at me. We shook hands and started talking. We suddenly realized that everyone was just standing there and watching us, thinking we were old friends, LOL. Really nice guy.

Interceptor was Max's yellow sedan at the start, Pursuit Special was the coupe. But the cars descriptions (overhead cams??) Were designed by art directors, for whatever looked and sounded good on screen, and didn't really have to make sense.

History lessons for you new age reimagine the past kids. The name "Police Interceptor" comes from Ford, who began using the name in 1951 for the optional flathead V-8 engine in their 1949 Ford Police Package. The practice of naming Ford's police package motors "Interceptor" continued through the 1950s. In 1992, Ford released the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, which became iconic as a police car due to its prevalence in fleets across North America after the discontinuation of the Chevrolet Caprice in 1996. Dunno what you new age kids will reimagine and reinvent in the future.... But the mad max inrerceptor was his vehicle of choice. Its a police patrol car. He was a police officer. All .. i repeat... All police vehicles are called inrerceptors. Again, i dont know what toy nee age kids will fake and lie about and reimagine non canonically in the future, but yea. Just waiting for you new age l card carriers to change mel gibson into will smith. Everything is changed black now. So im assuming youll call the interceptor the ho mobile or something ebonic and black and african american in the future.

Jensen got there first with their vehicle, also named "Interceptor" dating back to 1966. Jensen also adapted this vehicle for a short run (and the first production road car) of 320 all-wheel drive cars known as the Jensen FF.

A key part of this anti-hero drive-in flick? Vic Morrow. The final chase before the dramatic finish was incredible. The helicopter is tapping on the Charger’s hood and Morrow is yelling at the pilot to stay with the chase even though fuel is running low.

i saw both movies back in the day, for me the car, the black demonic car is more evil, on the other hand christine was posesed by the soul of a former owner that happens to be an evil guy, the black car was posesed by the devil it self, so for me the more bad and evil car is the black car

Interceptor sounds more intimidating than Pursuit Special. It's no wonder the Mad Max car became better known as Interceptor and why police departments in the US chose that name for their patrol vehicles. Television producer Glen A. Larson was most likely inspired by Mad Max. The first-time audiences heard the word nightrider was in the 1979 Mad Max Film. It was the name of the character played by actor Vincent Gil. Larson would use the name for a show he developed called Knight Rider which made its debut in 1982.

It’s easy to deduce that, at the beginning of Mad Max, one of the yellow cars in pursuit is a pursuit vehicle, while the other is an interceptor, which failed its primary mission, and then joined the pursuit vehicle in running the bad guy down. Then, Max was the final interceptor. There’s probably not much difference between a yellow pursuit and a yellow interceptor. And, since Max drives an interceptor for a living, the black Falcon was probably outfitted as a super interceptor.

Fun fact: Mad Max remains one of, if not _the_ highest return on a film to this very day. Avatar is listed as number one, only because it brought in 3 billion in ticket sales, but it cost 240 odd million to make, meaning it returned 12x its budget. Mad Max's budget was around 250,000 (USD) but made 100 million in the box office, meaning it returned 400x budget. Quite an achievement, by any measure.

Another possibility is that the older version interceptors and uniforms were spoils of war. Kill a cop, his is yours. Actually likely given the increasingly crazier characters

Great video essay. I've always been a huge car nut and remember seeing Mad Max in a local theater when I was 13 (NYC, 116 Street) in '79. I love all the films (except maybe parts of number 3), but the first will always be my second favorite after MM2. Being American, for years, we always got the dubbed-over version with voice-over actor Peter Hernandez (also coincidentally the English voice of Speed Racer anime), mainly as Max and I think FiFi, so later when Mel's actually voice and other cast members voices were finally used on all copies--I kinda miss the old version. Thanks for clearing up the confusion of Max's wheels, from the V8 Interceptor to the last of the V8 Pursuit Vehicle.

In the comics, its stated that in the time between Road Warrior and Thunderdome, Max was collecting parts to make a new Interceptor. I cannot remember if he used what was left of the old one as a starting point such as the chassis or if the fire/explosion from the booby trap did too much damage to salvage anything from it. The truck he was using in Thunderdome was full of parts for it. After Thunderdome he went back to collecting parts, eventually won an engine but had everything stolen by a gang who completed the car for their own use but Max stole it back. After that Max used the new Interceptor for a number of years but things went bad for him mentally for some reason and he became what he was at the beginning of Fury Road and in that time when Max was in a bad way, he stopped taking care of the Interceptor which is why it was so beat up and hardly running. He was planning to go into the "Zone of Silence" and try and cross it or try and find peace and die but was captured by Immortan Joe's War Boys who fixed up the Interceptor for their own use but it was then wrecked again in the chase back to the Citadel. It is possible Max could collect the wreck and again try and repair it, with the tech at the Citadel it would be easy but who knows if he would go back there to do it.

Oh, and by the way I own a 1990 Mustang GT. With a Cervini 3 inch cowel induction hood. The car is red of course. Goggle for pictures. This is closest Ford product that resembles the old Falcon. Has the 302 small block pushrod engine that I have added performance parts, no blower and if I installed one it certainly would not stick out of the hood. How fast does it go, I don't know because the speedometer stops at 200 kps.

From aerodinamics standpoint, the double wing on the back is purely nonsensical. The roof wing would make the tail wing work in 'vacuum' mening it;s not working at all.
