I picked this piece in 2007. My heart breaks bc shortly after everyone danced to it. But she did amazing.

Some of y'all pitting the Queens against each other? And I see it on Mao Monday????? Anyway I've been looking at a lot of skaters' programs from junior to senior (focused on the JPN and KOR ladies tho). It's really nice to see how they improve over the years especially in terms of performance
Why would an organ symphony by Camille Saint Saens be used for figure skating? A more suitable music is a waltz by Tchaikovsky or Johanne Strauss. It adds color and depth to Miki’s most presentable and beautiful skate. The organ music is just too dramatic for this type of powerful skating. Instead it should be softened up so her musical interpretation can be shown with flair and stamina.

Why did she use this song again in Olympics for her short program. Is it even allowed?
@psychstudentrip3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it’s allowed. A lot of skaters (and yes other skaters exist if you didn’t realize) will sometimes use the same music/program in back to back seasons. Yuko Kavaguti/Alexander Smirnov reused their Clair De Lune free skate I believe 4 seasons in a row, and they were one of the main medal contenders at international competitions about 5-6 years back. There is nothing in the rule book that says you can’t reuse music.
Her routine doesn’t seem to fit the music well. I love this song, and she does hold talent but ice skating is a joined art. And geisha (gei means art; geisha means artist) she is not.

When you choose Aranjuez, you are just begin for comparisons with Michelle Kwan's version (yes, Michelle's was a more modern arrangement). Joannie is great, but she is missing that Spanish flair and that musicality that Michelle had. And placing her spiral in the exact place where Michelle placed hers, you just have to compare the two change of edge spiral. Kwan's was by far superior. Lol. Any piece of music that Michelle has done should be retired.

Devilus Advocatias so what’s your point? Why do you have to comment here?

I agree.. no one should never skate to any MK music

The jazzy version of Concierto De Arajuez doesn’t fit to the ethereal beauty of Michelle’s figure skating montage. To me it’s a huge disappointment. This is what it should have been used by most artistic figure skaters when a montage is made of their figure skating moves.. Also what is difficult is to time the jumps to the music since its a bit of a disconnect

I really liked Joannie's program. It's natural to have a preference for old school skaters, it's nostalgic and they had such artistry. But in general, as the years go by, so does the technical difficulty (take for instance how quads and 3A are routinely done by ladies now). Even Kim Yuna at the 2009 Worlds did a Michelle Kwan song (Scheherazade), and Yuna was fantastic. If you watch the NBC 2009 Worlds coverage, Michelle Kwan was commentating, and she was gracious towards the podium winners (Yuna 1st, Joannie 2nd, Miki 3rd). When Michelle Kwan was asked if she wants to compete with these ladies during the Olympics, she simply said "No" and smiled. I think that's what I love the most about MK - her humility and she understood the game had changed and the 3 ladies were simply more technically advanced than her

And that's how you do a perfect jump with your hand over your head. Is it a tano? Unlike Medvedeva's jumps that are so celebrated today. 😐
