Great now you just need to find edges with no dirt on them.

You didnt need to do this test to know that dirt is abrasive. Of course it was hard on the rope

Thanks for great information! Though Petzl insist on hand brake with gri gri and Neox I couldn't convince fairly all climbers I know to hoild brake hand! Watching this differences between Gri Gri and Noex makes me even more worry about those climbers who use these as an automatic self-blocking gear! I think Noex is even more dangerous for them! Once a fireman made public show for people using Gri Gri lowering releasing his colleague and himself without stopper and and blocking brake! I warned him but he even give no shit to my warning!

Initially I thought climbing ropes would be way more cut resistant, while still being aware that they can snap on edges, this video made me a LOT more nervous about this topic, first thing tomorrow I’m buying a huge tarp

Excelent video! My doubts, when I learned about quickdraws, started exactly like you said: "Why not simply clipping rope with the carabiner to the bolt?" When I heard that, I knew your video would explain all my doubts. It’s been a month researching and no one, literally no one explained why quickdraws exist! They just teach how to use it. Your video is gold!

This would not have happened with proper Gaswerk method (thumb disengaging the locking mechanism when giving slack *while still holding the brake rope* with the same hand). The brake rope was clearly not held. Obviously, this is not a beginner belayer's sole fault. It indicates improper training. Going to your limit in lead climbing while a beginner belays you without backup or oversight is irresponsible.

So they still need to test a new rope, against the old + washed and further combine that with whether wet or dry rope……

Also tip: watch out in which direction you twist your hand when making the 2 loops for the first knot before you pass it through your harness loops. Since if you twist opposite of how he twists even if you start retracing on the right you will have 1 fold. Enjoy!

This looks like a fantastic device, which solves one of the main issues I've had with the grigri - paying out slack. Unfortunately it does come at the cost of complexity. Tubers, assisted locking tubers and the grigri were all simple enough that I could see how wear would affect the device, and reason about how they could fail. This meant I could be happy that I was confident they would fail-safe in the event of wear on the system. I don't yet know enough about the operation of the neox to be able to say the same. The number of moving parts has significantly increased, so it's much harder to say how wear will affect the device. I'm sure the engineers behind this have given it a lot of thought, but the more complex the device, the higher the chance that a failure mode might slip through, and there will be some obscure way in which it could fail. When the part in question is a belay device, for me personally, I have to be 100% certain that it will fail-safe after many years of use and wear

This makes me wonder how canyoning would impact ropes? Ive definitely had ropes soaked for over 40mins but I would imagine abseiling wouldn't have the same impacts as climbing, would be super interesting

On a thick rope, it doesn’t slip. I Used those for years and even allowed 100% newbies to do belay for me. I never have used and never will use a tube. If you use a thin rope, pay attention and hold on to it. But that rule is old.
