As a KDot fan I appreciate the input, as I barely listen to Drake. He don't get much play over here; but I do think there is some validity to how Drake's involvement has assisted in this ONE record awareness & popularity (it doesnt take away from KDot's artistry or influence), which can be a factor as to why it is now: - KDots longest running no. 1 as a solo act. - Set the single day streaming record on Spotify. - The fastest rap song to hit 500 Million streams. - 1st rap song in history to hit Billboard top 100 in the shortest time frame. And as a KDot fan, it's not even his best song, compared to his body of work. But one can argue it's blowing up because of the beef, and who is in the beef... DRAKE. Drake's global popularity is more worldly that Kendrick Lamar's (there is heat mapping data to prove it, plus he makes more crossover records that assists him extending his reach), KDot did not have that same reach. I know YOU KNOW KDot, but before this "beef" there were places in the world that didn't know who KDot was at all, regardless of the accolades you list... it doesn't make Kendrick a household name everywhere. So if a Worldly / more global artist is in a music beef with someone of less-global reach, then their (Drake's fan) awareness of KDot grows as a reflection of Drake's influence. It's a form of cross-promotion homie that comes from Hip Hop "beef". More research - (Drake - 145million followers on IG , KDot - 16 Million). So yeah. 129Million people might've just found out who Kendrick was, and helped blow this record up. Hope that brings clarity

Dope episode. Jhatch being on the show brought it full circle. Remember him being on the show during the pandemic. Sheesh. King Yohannes on the show was a great surprise. Need more producers to pull up randomly on the show. Amazing episode

What you not gonna do is say it was Drake’s influence that the song went #1! So the Chiefs lose by 30 to Tampa in the Super Bowl and ride the wave but they’re only getting notoriety because they beat the Chiefs. No they’re getting all the notoriety because they fn won! Kendrick won decisively.

1. Drake made it personal first and like Kendrick said “put the wrong label on me and I’m going to get them drop.” 2. The song is not a PDFile song, it is saying Drake is not like us as culture, he’s weird, and his questionable crew members. 3. I don’t think Kendrick cares for that song, but did it to show that he can do anything and now just enjoying what has come out of it.
