How do you know the lizard wont bite the dog?
@rorc4 ай бұрын
These tegus are generally pretty intelligent and not usually prone to random, aggressive biting, especially if raised in captivity around people and other animals. I've heard of a few tegus that would non-aggressively bite randomly as juveniles but grew out of it. Whether it will bite or not might actually come down to how its fed. Still, their body language tends to give away if they may threatened or if they just feel like trying to bite (thinking there might be food or some other reason).

South American. And this is highly uncharacteristic behavior of it btw
@cthulhu33922 жыл бұрын
It's actually rather upsetting to see. Just because you know someone is gonna try to get one to play with it. They will end up with either stitches, or a missing finger at that size. And along with that possibility a dead lungfish if they were to flick it out of the water before taking off to the hospital
@cthulhu33922 жыл бұрын
Playing with some hot ass fire there my guy, my SAL would have never allowed that. My Australian certainly does not, nor have any of my Africans...

@Groundx13 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this. These really seem to be tamer than African lungfish. And they're much better with other fish!
@cthulhu33922 жыл бұрын
This one is tame. Lungfish in general are highly agressive predators. This action is very uncharacteristic of them and upsetting to see because unlike a medium-sized cichlid if it chose to attack a lung of that size will at the very least cause a lot of stitches. It could also use its toothplates to sever a finger or if it hit the wrist instead it could tag an artery. This one may just have a good temperament or it may be something it was trained to do with food so in allowing the contact and even seeming to seek it, the fish may be trying to get food. They are not tame and I only recommend keeping them along side small fast nimble fish that it won't bother trying to catch due to size and speed difference. Like tetras. Same rule goes for the Africans and the Australian. And I find that aside from the Australian the South American is the most agressive of the lungfish with the East African being next in line.
